Congratulations on the birth. Hope you are finished with the pill.
I take it you're not Catholic.
Please sit down with your wife and have a serious discussion on procreation. There are so many unwanted children born into the world. Giving birth does not a mother make. Forming a family through adoption is a beautiful and blessed event.
"I take it you're not Catholic."
Nope.
At a similar point in time in my life, I confess to being ignorant to church teaching on this subject. Unable to conceive through normal means, my husband and I considered alternative means. Essentially, in my mind, the ends justified the means. However, an interior voice persuaded me that this was not God's design. We adopted.
in vitro fertilization ran counter to Catholic teachings, which stress that a child should be conceived through sex between a husband and wife.
"It's not so much that it's artificial that's the problem, instead it's removing the sexual act and procreative act from the context of marriage," he said."
What's dumb is punishing those who can't conceive naturally. It's pretty obvious in this case and probably more that this couple were good Catholics who wanted children naturally. The "procreative act" wasn't removed from the context of marriage.
Of course then there's the tenant that opposes the use of condoms to prevent unwanted births or protect from sexually transmitted diseases but I digress.
"Hope you are finished with the pill."
Not only that but after 3 children, I'm through having kids.
How could this teacher not know that in vitro fertilization is against Church teaching? If she was that ignorant of Church teaching, she never should have been teaching in a Catholic school in the first place. If she's lying about not knowing, then she deserves to be fired.
At any rate, it's refreshing to see a Catholic school actually enforce the morality clause in a teacher's contract.
It's T-E-N-E-T. And before you go off judging the whole of the Catholic Church as being "dumb for punishing" poor "good Catholics" for wanting to procreate, you might want to understand why the Church unswervingly stands behind her teachings on contraception. Here is Humanae Vitae. Come back after you've read it.
No thanks. I really don't need a bunch of men to tell me how to live and interpret the Bible.
Ah, your unwillingness to learn speaks volumes about your own inner rebellion. Be careful in running away, God catches you eventually.
Who says I'm running? I've been with God long enough to know that men don't speak for him very well.
You do a better job, do you? That is what I infer from your statement above.
No what it means is I don't need or believe that the "self appointed" heads of the Catholic church come close to speaking for God. If they did, they'd have a more caring and realistic view of people and the problems they have. I also infer from Scripture that the only go between I need between me and God is Christ, not a priest.
You're your own pope then.
"If they did, they'd have a more caring and realistic view of people and the problems they have."
Like the abortion providers? Or like pimps? Or like the people who made the pill? (which is an abortifacient by the way) http://www.pfli.org/faq_oc.html
Maybe the Church actually does have their best interest at heart.
On the other hand - it's all her fault for wanting children
Sure, whatever. I'm not Catholic that's for sure. I don't require a priest to tell me when I've sinned and I sure don't need absolution from a priest. The only absolution I need is from God and it's free for the asking.
For the Catholic church to judge this couple this way is unscriptural and judgemental.
Somehow I don't see it that way. Your ad hominum remark is off the subject. Now if you want further elaboration on my remark, I'll be happy to oblige. If not, whatever.
