"Gandalf" thinks the Bible should have a disclaimer as a work of fiction

Here’s a quick reminder, in case you needed it: Just because an actor portrays a character in a movie you really, really like, and even if he does it really well, it doesn’t mean he’s not an ass. Just so you know.

On a related note, Ian McKellen, who played Gandalf in “The Lord of the Rings” and who plays Leah Teabing in “The Da Vinci Code,” replies to demands that move include a disclaimer by saying that the Bible itself should have a disclaimer. In an interview on the “Today Show” as transcribed on the NewsBusters blog, he says:

“Well, I’ve often thought the Bible should have a disclaimer in the front saying this is fiction. I mean, walking on water, it takes an act of faith. And I have faith in this movie. Not that it’s true, not that it’s factual, but that it’s a jolly good story. And I think audiences are clever enough and bright enough to separate out fact and fiction, and discuss the thing after they’ve seen it.”
Incidentally, on this whole disclaimer business, every movie includes a disclaimer at the end of the credits that usually says a variation on “All people, places, and events in this work are fictional and any resemblance to actual people, places, and events is entirely coincidental.” If this doesn’t compromise the artistic integrity, such as it is, of the moviemakers, why should putting it up front do so?

McKellen is to be pitied. Pray for him.

Agree. Mr. McKellen obviously does not hunger for God which means his soul is sick and empty.

Romans 9:17
For the Scripture says to Pharaoh, "For this very purpose I have raised you up, that I may show My power in you, and that My name may be declared in all the earth."

Romans 9:18
Therefore He has mercy on whom He wills, and whom He wills He hardens.

Romans 9:19
You will say to me then, "Why does He still find fault? For who has resisted His will?"

Romans 9:20
But indeed, O man, who are you to reply against God? Will the thing formed say to him who formed it, "Why have you made me like this?"

Romans 9:21
Does not the potter have power over the clay, from the same lump to make one vessel for honor and another for dishonor?

Romans 9:22
What if God, wanting to show His wrath and to make His power known, endured with much longsuffering the vessels of wrath prepared for destruction,

Romans 9:23
and that He might make known the riches of His glory on the vessels of mercy, which He had prepared beforehand for glory,
(NKJV)

PRAY YOU ARE WELL SISTER!

SOLI DEO GLORIA!

Yeah, this old poofter is such a Bible expert. He claims his hobby is to tear out the "homosexual activity is an abomination" pages from the Gideon Bibles he finds in hotels. Right. This is REALLY going to make an impact. What an infantile person. Onto my prayer list with you, McKellen!

Well, all of the above may be true, but that doesn't change the fact that I am still looking forward to seeing him again as "Magneto" in X-Men3 (coming 5/26/06).

Of course he thinks it's fiction. It doesn't support his queer lifestyle.

He's a queer, and an atheist, which explains his animus against Christianity.

Now, now, let's all go easy on Sir Ian McKellan...we need to remember what they will say about him when he is gone...."Died without issue"

Well maybe self-proclaimed intellect McKellan should give back all the money he made on "The Lord of the Rings," a book written by a devout Roman Catholic that has subtle allusions to his Christian beliefs throughout. McKellan is just another hypocritcal movie star.

I mean, walking on water, it takes an act of faith.

Scientists don't always know everything.

Scientists have only very recently discovered why some insects can walk on water.

They'd been believing the wrong scientific explanation for some years.

Walking on Water: Insect's Secret Revealed, By Robert Roy Britt, 03 November, 2004

Until now, scientists thought this seemingly Biblical ability was due to a wax secreted on the insect's legs combined with surface tension, a property of water that makes its boundary behave something like stretched Saran Wrap for small things.

But new research finds the water strider's legs are covered with microscopic hairs that trap tiny air bubbles, allowing the insect to simply float.

At one time, scientists thought planes couldn't break the sound barrier; didn't know that the atom could be split; didn't know that X-rays could be created; etc.

Ian McKellen lacks an open mind, almost as much as he lacks faith.

It seems that, far from being a realist, Ian likes to manufacture his own truth.

John Rhys-Davies puts Jackie Chan in a choke hold

John Rhys-Davies would have made a great and personified Gandalf. But why mess with history at this point. Let the infamy of fame personify how evil destroys our souls.

What men put in themselves is what evil comes out of them. Perhaps this is why Jesus Christ gifted us with the Holy Eucharist to chain our consuming desires. Because there are people are who reject the Fruit of Life, Jesus on the Cross, they scavange for anything else. It's both amazing and disgusting what mankind will swallow instead of the Holy Eucharist.

It's not to gross out the reader or flex the stretch of what pun could fit this situation, but Ian has made a very far departure from Nature by his actions and all the propaganda he spews in defence of it. For being so late in his life, perhaps his vice is beyond his own control; and, he needs all the prayers we can offer for him. I certainly wouldn't want any other actor playing Gandalf if "The Hobbit" is put on the big screen. Maybe such flimsy real life actors can be replaced with CG. But, it would be far more a victory for Christ's Glory if real Redemption took place on Hollywood types.
