Slightly off topic - I'm not Catholic, so much of this is foreign to me. But I've heard of Padre Pio before.
And not in a good way. Apparently, in Northern Ireland, kneecapping and shooting out the elbows is so yesterday. The newest form of punishment shootings over the past couple of years involves having the victim put his hands together as if in prayer. He is then shot through both hands.
They call it the Padre Pio. As I said, I'm not Catholic, but even I must shake my head at that and wonder is there nothing sacred anymore.
The fascists in the middle east have co-opted their religion to promote their lunacy. The IRA has done the same thing with Catholicism. I doubt a tenth of them attend Mass even yearly.
They likely call it that because Padre Pio was believed to have the Stigmata, that is, wounds on his hands similar to those Christ had from being nailed to the Cross. Nonetheless, naming a deliberate mutilation after Padre Pio is disgusting. But that's not surprising considering that the leadership of the IRA was called "The Twelve Apostles".
