Although it's assumed/inferred in the article that the author is talking about the Roman Catholic Church, the word "catholic" also means and includes all Christians. In that sense, I'm a Catholic, too. Just a FYI.

I don't know . . . Do you see the Mother of Jesus when She talks to you?
|
To: Bosco
Yes, dear Bosco. As the Second Vatican Council put it in
Lumen Gentium, "All of those who are baptized and believe in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior are truly but imperfectly in communion with the Catholic Church."
So, you are cetainly but imperfectly Catholic.
A good description for most of us...

I can't answer for Bosco. but I will say that I have accepted Jesus as my personal Savior, and Mary as my personal Mother...

... but I will say that I have accepted Jesus as my personal Savior, and Mary as my personal Mother... As a revert, I can go along with that, but I have real trouble distinguishing the practical differences in "veneration" of Mary from "worship."
I know I can't see into another's heart, but I sure can read the formal prayers they recommend.

how about giving me the condensed version?
To: Bosco
That's fine. It's sort of true, but she is talking about the Roman Catholic Eucharist, the True Body and Blood, and I think her point was that the others pale in comarison to the real thing. As a non Catholic, are you aware your screen name is that of a Catholic Saint?

"Honor" is different from the adoration which is due to God alone. We are not only
permitted, but we are
commanded to honor other humans:
Romans 2:10
but glory, honor and peace for everyone who does good:
first for the Jew, then for the Gentile.
Romans 12:10
Be devoted to one another in brotherly love.
Honor one another above yourselves.
Romans 13:7
Give everyone what you owe him...
if respect, then respect; if honor, then honor.
And of course: "Honor thy father and thy mother."
Jesus Himself without a doubt obeyed the Ten Commandments, and therfore He honored His Mother.
So the Church is right to say that it's fitting. From the Cross, Jesus gave us His Mother to cherish her. "Behold, thy mother!"

two things that crack me up in it - first, that Flander's denomination split off over something that no one cares about anymore (how true), and the guy in the Notre Dame sweatshirt beating the tar out of the other guy, (his sweathsirt has a "B" I think, but I'm not sure what it is for.. Boston College maybe?)

Perhaps I wasn't clear.
In practical terms, I find Marian "honor" and Divine "adoration" to be a distinction without difference.
I don't even have a problem with the Rosary... except for the pray on the medal.

Jesus is in the Catholic Heaven...I love it. And I love the diversity of Catholic Heaven as well.

I thought USC was Notre Dame's big rival.
I can't really make out the second sweatshirt in the Irish free-for-all, but the fellow "riverdancing" in the front row has a sweatshirt that changes from ND to B! (call me a continuity freak!)
I'll be eating pasta and drinking good wine with the paisanos -- I hope!
