Thanks, Silly!
I really needed this chuckle today. VERY apt.

I know many Rick apologists. He's pure as the wind-driven snow in their books.....

Yeah, I've run into many of those defenders too. It's frightening that they can't see it. When a Christian leader 'suddenly' has a fall like Jimmy Swaggart did, etc. it blindsides them. Truth be told, there were probably a few people who saw it coming and tried to warn them. Bad theology leads to bad behavior eventually.

This is a great statement from one of the SBC's higher ups against Rick Warren's AIDS extravaganza. Excellent.

Excellent post Terriergal. Thanks for the ping.

This must make Warren a tad uncomfortable being isolated within his own denomination.

Thanks Terriergal!
I am familiar with the website you linked but hadn't been able to visit it to see the latest submission. My family and I were part of a church that adopted PDL and also many programs like Bell's Nooma, etc.

At various times, we were told to "center" ourselves before prayer and to practice many other "contemplative spiritual" rituals. It was time to go. I was sick and angry (but not surprised) to see the chokehold of the New Age on a whole denomination. Sadder still to see a congregation willing to accept it all without question.

Wonderful tagline!

The bottom line is do we bow to the Creator or the creature(man)? Can't take credit for that question but it boils down to this: Many set up pedestals and idolize something/someone on it. Who or what is on that pedestal? Rick Warren? Our pastor? Hollywood? If it's a human or an object, we are destined to be hurt or blinded. The only one we can truly rely on is Jesus Christ--100% of the time. He never fails us.

I think it's scary that Rick was able to speak at a synagogue and not mention the name Jesus Christ for the whole evening.

No, but do they have churches by that same name in more than one state?

By what name? Not sure what you mean. the Evangelical Covenant is this one www.covchurch.org - and they are doing exactly as you suggested in your post I had responded to with the E Covenant question. What denomination was yours?

Some of the Evangelical Covenant churches however have dropped the denomination name (as suggested by PDC). For example, Solomon's Porch (Doug Pagitt) is ECC, and so is Life Covenant church in Tulsa OK http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LifeChurch.tv

""campuses" located in Arizona, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, and on the Internet averaging over 18,000 people in attendance each weekend. "

Yikes.

Also Crossroads church which is pretty big.

Duluth, MN
The Gathering

Another few that removed "covenant" from the name....

Duluth, MN --The Gathering http://www.thegatheringchurch.org/

St Paul, MN-- The Lift http://www.liftcovenant.org/ (site seems to be down)

There was one in Sioux Falls (If I remember correctly) that basically the whole congregation decided to (according to Northwest Conference director Jim Fretheim, master manipulator) change their form of polity to 'pastor makes all the decisions.' So they nicely made the necessary financial arrangements to go independent. I doubt that the Covenant would in practicality have any problem with that form of polity, after all it's the actual way things are run in PD churches and they love PDC. But it wouldn't do to have it officially known that they endorse this kind of thing... yet.

Now they're "church at the gate." http://www.churchatthegate.com/
