A Purim Question (vanity)

If I remember correctly, the original three day fast the Jews kept during the Purim episode (as related in the Megillah) took place on 13, 14, and 15 Nisan. This includes the night of the Seder

Did Jews still observe the Seder that year, or did the 'Anshei-HaKenesset HaGedolah issue a hora'at sha`ah that cancelled it for that year? This certainly would have been well within their authority.

The fast while called the The Fast of Esther is actually to commerate the pre-war fast of the Jews occurring on the date of 13th of Adar after Achashveros permitted the Jews to go to war against their enemies.

Fast of Esther

As to your question, since the lives of the Jews were in great jeopardy, the sedarim were post-poned for the purpose of prayer and teshuva. this is what i recall learning.

BTW.. should have mentioned this before but remember that Mordechai was the Gadol HaDar and his word would have been sufficient especially due to the circumstances.

So they observed the Pesach Sheni that year, I assume.

Absolutely! No disagreement whatsoever! That august body also contained such men as Dani'el and the later Prophets.

This I was not aware of. Thank you for the information. I know that Ta`anit 'Ester is a lesser degree fast than the four relating to the Babylonian siege of Jerusalem and destruction of the Beit HaMiqdash.
