Who is Lincoln's equal in History? I'm not sure he has one. And I can't believe that I was so minimally educated concerning Lincoln and the Civil War. That's a real shame.
The Civil War is this Country's greatest wound and greatest moment in terms of telling the world what exactly is in its marrow and who we are, congenitally. It's the most illustrative example of America being great because America is good.

Try Elton Trueblood: Abraham Lincoln, Theologian of American Anguish .Unfortunately, out of print, and the used books at Amazon are pretty expensive. Although I didn't know much about him except having read his book 20+ years ago, his biography at Wikipedia is very interesting.
