TIME WARNER NEEDS TO CHECK BILL MAHER (Catholic League blasts Bill Maher for comments about Falwell)
Catholic League ^ | May 22, 2007 | Bill Donohue

Posted on 05/24/2007 12:24:59 PM PDT by NYer

HBO’s “Real Time with Bill Maher” ran a show on May 18—repeated throughout this week—that began with an attack on the late Rev. Jerry Falwell and then devolved into an assault on Catholicism:

“And it’s easy to start a religion! Watch, I'll do it for you: I had a vision last night! A vision! The Blessed Virgin Mary came to me—I don’t know how she got past the guards—and she told me it’s high time to take the high ground from the Seventh Day Adventists and give it to the 24-hour party people. And what happens in the confessional stays in the confessional. Gay men, don’t say you’re life partners, say you’re a nunnery of two. ‘We weren’t having sex, officer, I was performing a very private Mass, here in my car. I was letting my rod and staff comfort him. Take this and eat of it, [our emphasis] for this is my roommate Barry. And for all those who believe there is a special place for you in Kevin.”

Catholic League president Bill Donohue responded this way:

“We are writing to the 14 members who sit on the board of directors of Time Warner (the parent company of HBO) asking each of them whether Maher’s gratuitous and highly offensive attack on Jesus Christ merits the same punishment afforded Imus for his racist remark. Maher is a serial anti-Catholic bigot who mocked the Eucharist as recently as April 16.

“Time Warner’s Standards of Business Conduct—revised last month by the board of directors—includes the following principle: ‘While our content may sometimes engender controversy, we want no one to question our character.’ We know Maher lacks character. What the public needs to know is whether Time Warner’s board has any.”

Bill Maher looks like the illegimate son of Hugh Hefner, and if he is, he was raised in a cathouse which accounts for his abysmal ignorance.

It takes a lot to shock me, and I’m not even a Catholic, but I’m shocked. There is a time and place for using the expression “filthy,” and the word is used too much, but this is thoroughly filthy.

Maher is very wrong, profoundly and angrily estranged from the Lord. He follows the opposite path from the one suggested by Paul, to pursue what is true and beautiful. We should pray for him.

This is nothing more than blasphemy against God. It is my belief this is one area you don't really want to mess with.

William A. Donohue has never liked Hollywood types.

Here is a quote for Donohue on his opinion of Hollywood and Jews.

“Hollywood is controlled by secular Jews who hate Christianity in general and Catholicism in particular. It‘s not a secret, OK?”

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/6685898/

I do not think that Donohue is in a position to call anyone a Bigot.

Here is another Donohue quote from the same appearance in MSNBC.

“Mel Gibson represents the mainstream of America.”

Did you bother to read what Maher said? I don’t care who called him out on it. If you do, what’s wrong with you?

Maher is a Bigot.

Donohue is also a Bigot.

Is that better?

Maher is yanking our chains and we take the bait every time. His show depends on controversy and the generation of self-righteous indignation. Without it, his show would wither and die. He portrays us as a group of sexually frustrated church ladies and our response often confirms this.

I think ignoring his shtick is the way to go here.

When the Muslims take over and America adopts sharia, Maher will be separated from his head at the point of an Islamic scimitar. Until then, let him blather.

So you’ve picked out one interview where Donohue was an idiot and compared the words “secular Jew” (note the “secular”) to the low class rantings of a serial bigot.

What’s your point?

I am a Catholic. I go to Mass and even went to Catholic school.

Donohue, when he rants about the “Jews controlling Hollywood” or states that Mel Gibson is in the mainstream of America is more than an idiot and bigot but an embarrassment to the Faith.

And you think Mr. Donohue is lying? It’s not secret that secular Jews do control a large portion of the Media and Hollywood :
http://www.lukeford.net/essays/contents/Hollywood_Jews.htm

“While Thomas Edison invented the motion picture camera, immigrant Jewish entrepreneurs (like Sam Goldwyn, Jack and Harry Warner, Louis B. Mayer) created Hollywood. Jews created the three major American television networks, William Paley’s CBS, David Sarnoff’s NBC and Leonard Goldenson’s ABC.

Today about two-thirds of leading TV and movie producers are Jewish.

Jewish domination of entertainment is little discussed in the mainstream media, which is also dominated by Jews, out of fears of arousing hatred of Jews.”

Mat 12:34 O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh.

Mat 12:36 But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.

Mat 12:37 For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.

t 15:18 But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man.

Mat 15:19 For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies:

You are pointing out there’s a distinction between stating facts, as you have given us, and then attaching bigotry to them. Jewish people have historically owned and controlled a good portion of what we now call the “mainstream media”. There’s nothing wrong with acknowledging that. I suppose the point of argument is whether that implies they have a conspiracy to put over a viewpoint, secular or otherwise, or whether they are simply good businessmen, following the rules of supply and demand. Most likely, they are unique individuals with motivations along the whole spectrum.

erm... as someone who worked in Hollywood... Let’s just say practicing Catholics need not apply.

BUT - I worked independently with a few secular Jews who were EXTREMELY respectful of my faith, one of whom came to my Catholic wedding. His blanket statement was truly unfortunate because there are ALWAYS exceptions. Is there a dominant group? Absolutely. But last I checked, Ron Howard isn’t Jewish, and he’s done tremendous harm to the dignity of our faith. So, in reality, our enemies are secularists - secularist Jews, secularist Christians, secularist atheists.

As for Maher, I pray for a miracle to save his sorry ass. We should all be asking for the intercession of St. Paul in this man’s life.

I think’s Maher actually hit spot on the REAL problem in Christianity today, and even (and in someways, especially) the Catholic priesthood. Everyone makes up their own religion, and no-one holds anything sacred.

True, his crassness was from his own lack of respect, rather than relunctantly exposing a lack of respect so that the truth be known.

Is Mayer Jewish?

I recall, on a PC show with Falwell as a guest, Falwell referenced Mayer as a young Jewish boy having attended a Catholic school. Mayer went through the roof denying it.

“Hollywood is controlled by secular Jews who hate Christianity in general and Catholicism in particular. It‘s not a secret, OK?”

That statement in the eyes of many is true and extends beyond Hollywood. Try the NYC museum. The characters of Falwell and Mayer are on opposite sides of the bigot scale.
