I agree with his apparent humility. I think if they had made them out of sackcloth he would have worn them gladly.

I don't believe traditionalists are balking at the idea of blue vestments being worn by the Pope. The problem is the colors and style of those colors on the vestments which so many find appalling and quite inappropriate for the liturgy.

I had an interesting conversation today with a priest who is familiar with the situation in Austria and he confirmed that the Austrian bishops were playing a game with Benedict XVI by providing these garish vestments.

Blue is a common liturgical color in the East for the Feasts of Our Lady. I find the color very lovely and appropriate, HOWEVER, the horrible tie-dye thing they have going on here is NOT in keeping with that spirit. Hmmph.
