TEST TUBES IN SPACE!
Tune: "Earth and All Stars" (LW 438, LSB 817)

Test tubes in space!
Loud clashing symbols!
Sing like we're stuck in the Sixties once more!
Turtle-necked profs!
Loud boiling classrooms!
Sing like we're stuck in the Sixties once more!
This is such mar-gi-nal stuff.
Why are we singing such an odd song?

All of the traditional hymns which have had their lyrics modified to be politically correct.

AWFUL SONG
Tune: "Awesome God"

Our song is an awful song,
It's filled with empty fluff--
Of Christ, not near enough--
Our song is an awful song.

SHAME, CHURCHES, SHAME
Tune: "Shine, Jesus, Shine"

Shame, churches, shame,
For this brand of "creative worship."
Lame, music, lame--
That's what you admire.
Spine, churches, spine--
Blending in isn't so "courageous."
Check out your roots,
Church, and sing some real hymns.

“Awesome God” is a great song if the verses are included. Without the verses, the chorus is weak. With the verses, the context of “awesome” is the old fashioned awe-some sense, not the surfer dude sense.

Actually, the verses make it WORSE! Terrible confusion of Law and Gospel.

I vote for the gnostic drivel “He Lives.”

You can add the treacly "In the Garden" and "For Those Tears I Died."

I won’t vote to ban any, but I’ll play Sinatra’s “Here’s To The Losers” in honor of those that qualify. I’d only have trouble with the final part where Sinatra sings “Bless ‘em all”.

BTW, the parody you provided here is great because it highlights one of my all-time least favorite hymns. It has to be an ELCA staple. Thank God I haven’t heard it yet at our LCMS church (yes, they do have contemporary services...do I go? Not very often).

How about “Magesty” and

“Lord I lift Your name on high” is my #1 all time worst song.

Even worse than Barry Manilow’s “Mandy.”

I ask you, what kind of neo-paganism garbage is that!?!

I’ve always cringed when I hear the “Lord’s Prayer” set to music. It’s a beautiful prayer to recite, but the tune it’s sung to is awful.

They’re going to sing “Soon and very sooon, We’re going to see the king” as the closing hymn every week until Christmas, and I am leaving on the first “Soon” every week until Christmas.

For everyone else, “Louie, Lousie”.

Almost everything published since 1970 that's in the Celebration Hymanl. Get rid of the "worship sequences" too.

Ugh, I hate “Lord of the Dance.” I don’t mind “Simple Gifts,” when I’m in an Americana mood, but “Lord of the Dance” stinks.

My parish, for all its Redneck Evangelical Party Barn atmosphere, has never used “Lord of the Dance”!

Majesty can be overdone and done poorly.

But it’s still a wonderful son and Jack Hayford did a good job on it as he has on several.

Don’t recall saying I liked it.

Likely won’t get to it anytime soon.

Just sounded like offense was taken at dancing . . . something that CAN be fitting and Spirit led.

IF ofense is taken at something Holy Spirit is leading, that’s troubling.

Depends on what you consider a hymn. I know a lot of “Gospel music” that’s truly terrible from a musical perspective, however well-intentioned. Some of it is beautiful however.

Translation: I don't know anything about the song, don't care to know the song, but that won't stop me from bashing Gamecock's faith, which I really don't know either.

I’ll just repeat something a Freeper (name not recalled) said in so
many words on a previous “church music” thread:

“Any church song composed after 1965 is crap.”

Not exactly my opinion...but not far wide of the mark.

(no flames please...I do know that “there is no disputing of opinions”,
we all have our personal likes and dislikes)

Lord of the Dance gets sung all the time at my parish. I think it’s a Shaker traditional song. It stinks. A few times it was even played (on piano of course) during Holy Communion. I cannot think of a more vapid tune...

Yet another super WRONG translation.

1. Said nothing per se about anyone’s FAITH in Christ.

2. My comment was strictly about the evidently derisive, caustic, hostile comment about dancing in worship.

3. Further, that IF one were derisive about ANYTHING

HOLY SPIRIT WAS FOSTERING—INCLUDING DANCING IN WORSHIP

THEN

THAT

would be corrosive to one’s walk with God.

###########

I’m skeptical that my translation of myself will aid understanding much at all but at least there’s now another chance at getting an interpretation correct.

“Anti-Christian website. Don’t bother.”

IMHO (and very fallible, I might add), this looks more like the
Internet imitation of “The Wittenburg Door”, a satire magazine written
by Christians about the foibles of high-profile Christians and
Christians “movements”.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Door_(satirical_Christian_magazine)

Like “The Wittenburg Door”, I suspect “The Holy Observer” gets the
same spectrum of responses: from loud laughter to condemnation
as the work of heretics.

(about “The Holy Observer” , as written by The Holy Observer staff)
