Cardinal (Mahony) attack: Restraining order requested
KABC ^ | December 6, 2007

Attorneys have requested a temporary restraining order against a man they claim threatened Cardinal Roger Mahony and other Los Angeles archdiocese officials.

Documents filed yesterday in the restraining order petition accuse Edward George Filek of breaking into Our Lady of the Angels Cathedral early Monday and making threats against Mahony and other cathedral workers.

Mahony recently told fellow priests that he was assaulted earlier this year in the wake of the Catholic Church's sexual-abuse scandal.

Filek is not linked to that attack.

Earlier today, Diogenes from Off The Record, posted the following to his blog. He nails it.

unsolved mystery

There were no witnesses. He didn't file a police report. In fact Cardinal Mahony didn't tell anyone that he had been physically assaulted until months after the fact. Now the trail is cold, and unless they somehow gain more evidence, police are unlikely to find the perp.

Does that seem implausible to you? A potentially dangerous, violent man is on the loose in LA. He could be a threat to others. And yet the cardinal-archbishop didn't bother to tell police?

Oh wait. Never mind.

How about how the Cardinal didn’t even report a supposedly violent attack, yet now he wants a restraining order against some homeless wackjob — not the original attacker — who merely created a fuss at the Cathedral?

The Cardinal, who goes nowhere without a bodyguard, actually went down the road from the Cathedral alone to MAIL some LETTERS? Methinks this is very conveeeeenient to have these news stories depicting Mahoney as a victim right when the priests who raped the girl, and Mahoney knew about it and the pregnancy that ensued, but did not report them, has been in the news. No?

Cardinal, why the restraining order? Why not bend down and wash this homeless man's feet?

I don’t think anyone does believe a thing Cardinal Mahony says. I think the reason the LAPD jumped on the rumore Mahony had been attacked is that they knew it was baloney and wanted to call him on it.

“The Cardinal, who goes nowhere without a bodyguard,”

That’s very disturbing. Why is he at risk?

The Cardinal is a very unpopular figure outside of his own sphere. He passed more pedophile priests on to other parishes or jobs than Bernard Law. He stalled for many years when asked to turn over the documents related to the many cases of priest sexual abuse. I don’t believe he ever did turn over those files.

I am surprised Catholics don’t pressure him to step down or whatever Cardinals do to leave leadership. He is very influential in L.A. politics as well, and is pro-sanctuary city for our millions of illegal aliens (mostly Catholic). Still, he has a lot to answer to so many people who were hurt because of his refusal to remove and report criminal priests.

Well, yeah, but good people don’t assassinate bishops. Only evil people assassinate bishops. Since protecting sodomites and giving them access to the young is an evil thing to do, it seems that evil people wouldn’t assassinate him. Professional courtesy and all that, you know.

(By the way, very, very few of the offending priests were pedophiles. The huge majority were ordinary garden-variety homosexuals who preyed on adolescents, as homosexuals are wont to do.)

Pedophilia is usually based upon the age of the victim. Why do you say they were not pedophiles.

Do you have a stats on what % of ordinary garden-variety homosexuals prey on adolescents? (as you say: as homos are wont to do)

“Pedophilia is usually based upon the age of the victim. Why do you say they were not pedophiles.”

Because the vast majority of the victims were at or past puberty.

“Do you have a stats on what % of ordinary garden-variety homosexuals prey on adolescents? (as you say: as homos are wont to do)”

Yeah. All of them.

Homo + youth + opportunity = traumatized youth.

It’s an axiom.

Didn’t you read that recent study showing that 85% of all studies are complete buncombe?

Given the moral and intellectual corruption that defines academia today, I’m one of the most reliable and trustworthy sources your’re likely to find.
