The custom of giving gifts to a King....or Head of State was established protocol long before the birth of Our Saviour. The fact that the Magi presented gifts to Him had absolutely nothing to do with His being born.....but the fact He would be King....according to prophecy.

I should have read a little further before I responded...:-)

That’s cool. I don’t have a problem with that but as you said you are one in a million. I am sure your kids are very well balanced (as most FREEPERS kids are as I can imagine). It just saddens me that we are getting all kinds of people wanting to celebrtate Christmas differently than it used to be. For example, soon stores will be open on Christmas day. After that the slope will continue down until eventually it will be a work day. That day will hopefully come after I am six feet under. I am only 38 and see the changes to Christmas already in that short amount of time.

I would say celebrate just because of the family issue. Family is important, and it is not like we get many holidays where we can spend time together.

I wanted to elaborate on this a bit more. The Lord wasn't remiss about family time when he created his holy days:

Deu 16:14 And thou shalt rejoice in thy feast, thou, and thy son, and thy daughter, and thy manservant, and thy maidservant, and the Levite, the stranger, and the fatherless, and the widow, that are within thy gates.

What comes around goes around. There's nothing new under the sun. Those Christian Americans who wouldn't have been caught dead observing Christmas were probably just as dismayed when Christmas became prominent and not just a minor Catholic holiday.

I'm Christian, officially non-denominational. I currently attend services with the United Church of God which is mentioned a couple of times in this article.
