Seven Major Prophetic Signs Of The Second Coming

In 1948, when Israel took its place among the nations of the world again for the first time in nearly 2000 years, students of prophecy recognized the fulfillment of the primary sign that the end of the age was upon us. Ezekiel had predicted this would happen and in effect Jesus had said that the generation being born when it happened would still be alive when He returned (Matt. 24:34) because the things He gave as signs of His impending return require that Israel be a nation in its historical land with a functioning Temple.

The fulfillment of this prophecy caused another reaction as well. Satan reads prophecy too, and began exerting his influence on world leaders in his continuing effort to thwart the plan of God. As a result, Israel has fought six major wars in the last 58 years, each of them an attempt to erase the Jewish Homeland from the face of the Earth. And it's clear that this effort will continue, with the biggest battle of all looming on the horizon, foretold by Ezekiel in chapters 38-39. Israel's enemies, both physical and spiritual, won't let up until they've either succeeded (their view) or been d

In ancient Israel, when God would judge her for unbelief, He would sometimes allow her to have a series of lusy kings/queens until they sobered up. Looking at Iowa, I must say I am "concerned." With the exception of Fred maybe.

Really, first time in 2000 years? What about in 68AD? Why didn't that fulfill the prophesy?

Half of America thought Jesus was returning to Earth on October 22, 1844.

It’s still known historically as “The Great Disappointment.”

Every single generation believes that their generation is the end times generation and is able to look at all the prophesies is proof. I generally fall into the Preterism school of thought- that Revelation was written as a contemporary piece on the brief period when Israel declared themselves independent and was sacked by Rome through the final stand at Masada (ironically, at Megiddo.)

No question about that. Whether it's Daniel or Revelation or Ezekiel, someone can always come with their flavor of prophecy which indicates that the end is near.

I remember my Sunday School teacher emphatically explaining that Jesus would return before man set foot on the moon, because no way was God going to allow sinful man to step foot off a sinful planet onto another undesecrated planetary body.

Well, he was wrong. And they even took golf clubs with them.

We're told to make sure we keep oil in our lamps, so of course every generation will have had people who believed that their generation was the one. I'm reminded of the many generations of Israelites that have come & gone, waiting for the coming of the Messiah.

That’s right, because He didn’t come in previous generations doesn’t mean he won’t come now.

"Every single generation believes that their generation is the end times generation"

And eventually one will be right.

Understand your point completely.......but color me one who believes that we are truly in THE end times.

It seems many are ‘being told’ by the Lord that He is coming, and coming soon. “Soon” is really a relative word, I know; could be next week or 500 years from now. I believe He means it in our own terms, personally, and choose to live that way.

He is coming soon. Very soon. Maybe tomorrow. Maybe 10,000 years from now, but even 10,000 years is merely a blink in eternity:

But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance. (2 Peter 3:8-9)

All you have to do is keep redefining what the word "generation" means. Hal Lindsey and his peeps (like Chuck Smith and Edgar Whisenant) back in the 1970s said it meant about 40 years. Everyone nodded and agreed, until 1988 came and went.

Now, according to this latest theory, it comes to mean something like those born in 1948 in Israel. So I guess until the very past person born in 1948 in Israel passes way, a "generation" is still in effect. I wonder how the definition will change after that.
