this is the first I've ever heard of anything like this. do they consider St. Bernadette's body to be profaned? I cherish the photo my friend brought me back from Lourdes. Maybe Pia needs to read The Incorruptibles.

Archbishop Domenico Umberto D'Ambrosio has announced that the body of San Pio - who is still known to devotees as Padre Pio - will be taken out of his tomb and put on display later this year for pilgrims to see and venerate.
Can someone explain the purpose of doing this kind of thing? I don't get it. Sure, we visit the graves of relatives, friends, and yes, sometimes famous people. But why the need to exhume the body?
