People tend to shove this issue into a black tidy little box or a white one.
I think it takes great sensitivity to Holy Spirit.
Critical, fleshly, carnal, mean spirited, haughty judgment is certainly evil and comes back to one’s self with horrid interest.
Declaring the truth God wants declared about an issue, group, belief, even an individual is different. The critical issues are the heart attitude of the one stating the truth and the motivation as well, usually, as the manner.
But the manner can be God-directed in everything from Christ’s rebuked of the RELIGIOUS leaders of 2000 years ago to a gentle exhortation.
If we earnestly are endeavoring to walk with God and submit to Him, I think He is faithful to blow the whistle when we are about to engage in the wrong thing in this ball park. Then we have to stop quickly and adjust our attitudes and our motives—and perhaps back away and do the opposite.
I truly believe that many are sick because of their constant gossip and criticism of God’s anointed ones (imperfect as all of us are). I’ve had to examine myself on that score because I used to be very critical of other Christians that I felt didn’t quite measure up. I was so wrong. I had to repent of that.
