"40 Days for Life" invited to White House for Pope's visit!
40 Days for Life: email from "David Bereit, 40 Days for Life" (head of organization ^ | April 15, 2008 | David Bereit

I'm still in complete shock after receiving the following invitation from the White House...

************

"The President and Mrs. Bush cordially invite you to attend the arrival ceremony of His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI to be held at The White House on Wednesday, April 16, 2008."

************

That's TOMORROW MORNING.

Wow!!

I'm really stunned!

What a testament to YOUR prayers and hard work that 40 Days for Life has gained the level of attention to be part of this major event...

...through YOUR efforts and sacrifices, the White House and the Vatican have heard about the difference you've made for life...

...and now YOU will be represented at this historic gathering on the South Lawn (which is occurring on the Pope's 81st birthday!)

Topher, I wish so much that I could bring you with me to experience this, but I can't :-(

However, I am going to do my very best to bring the excitement of this event directly TO YOU!

Here's how...

We've been scrambling to set up the technology so that I can give you LIVE reports straight from the South Lawn of the White House.

Throughout tomorrow morning, I'll be documenting what's happening via my cell phone. Those calls will be instantly posted on the 40 Days for Life blog as an audio file that you can listen to.

Who knows -- I may even be able to get some quick interviews with other special guests in attendance at the event :-)

Whether you'll be at work, home, or school, you can listen to these "on the spot" reports as they happen, or you can listen to the recordings later at your convenience.

I'll begin sending the reports starting early tomorrow (I have to go through security at the White House at 7:30 AM) and you'll be able to check back throughout the morning to get the latest updates.

Everything will be posted online as it happens tomorrow at:

Events on Blog site: http://www.40daysforlife.com/

Topher, I am very sincere when I say...

...THIS WOULD NEVER HAVE HAPPENED WITHOUT YOU!

Yours for Life,

David Bereit National Campaign Director 40 Days for Life

P.S.- Keep in mind that this is a first-ever thing we're trying to do, but I really want to help you experience this alongside me!

P.P.S.- Three and a half years ago, while four of us were praying around a beat-up wooden table in College Station, Texas, planning the first 40 Days for Life, who could have ever imagined that something like this would be happening? I'll say it again -- WOW!!

The information for the article is the email.

The blog site has this information (for today, April 15), and will be updated with events of the visit to the White House...

I am really glad to see this -- as this is not a Catholic organization or a Protestant organization or an Evangelical organization. But it is an organization to use the Christian practice of using 40 Days of Fasting and Prayer to win the battle for Abortion...

And with this visit, the organization's head gets to met with President George W. Bush and Pope Benedict XVI...

I wonder who will give ideas to whom...

Ping.

Significant achievement for a Pro-Life Organization -- to be asked to meet with President George W. Bush (and First Lady Barbara) and to meet with Pope Benedict XVI.

Apologies if this ping is unwelcome -- but I thought all of you would like to hear the news...

Very nice for a fairly new and small pro-life group to receive this honor. I never heard of this organization, there’s a common bond between the protestant and Catholic ideas of prayer and fasting, this is good we can share these ideas and implement them together.

Please be careful with your plan for live cell-phone broadcasts; the security at the White House may not like it?

Very nice! It makes an end-run around the sometimes bickering anti-abortion groups and gets it back to what the whole thing is really about: stopping abortion, regardless of whether you’re a Protestant or a Catholic.

Your efforts have not gone unnoticed and now is the time for a little recognition. My prayers for your ministry. May God be glorified in all you do. God bless you all.

There are 9,000 guests total at the White House, so 40 Days for Life may not be the only pro-life leader at the White House.

David has posted a report already from the White House on his Blog (audio report)...

I agree -- that is why this is so welcome news!

Some Pro-Life organizations have become 40 Days of Steak Dinner organizations rather than focusing on Prayer and Fasting.
