Having heard talk of "God hates Soldiers" protesting the funeral of hero, Matt Maupin, whose remains have been recently restored to his family, I went to the devil's den at Westboro's website and found confirmation. From Phelps' own website, which I won't link to, because I don't want to give him traffic, comes this gem:
Great American Ball Park 100 Main This is for the funeral of Army Staff Sgt. Keith M. Maupin. Thank God for another Dead Soldier! Whoohoo! That is some goodness right there!
One item that I noticed only recently comes from Matt's family, and is information they received early on about Matt's capture. In addition to the disturbing threat of someone being executed, and the military's inability to actually confirm that it was Matt was a message that the executioners permitted Matt to make. In it Matt said that all he wanted was to return to his wife and child.
The truth is that Matt had no wife or child.
Matt was signaling that he was being tortured and forced to speak. It was important for him to let his nation know that anything he said or did should be discounted.
Also significant is that Matt was taken prisoner in the Abu Ghraib region of Iraq. The media, which made a big deal of a phony, torture-atrocity at Abu Ghraib prison, in which prisoners were stripped of their clothing, has not mentioned the real atrocity of Abu Ghraib, the torture-death of an American Prisoner, SSG Matt Maupin.
This young hero deserves our support as he is laid to rest. His last known words were an attempt to uphold the dignity of his nation. What can we do for him?

They are known as the “Patriot Guard Riders” or simply PGR. Most are Veterans or supporters of Veterans who quickly became disgusted with the antics of the Westboro Baptist Church and the Phelps’ in dishonoring the funerals of our military personnel.
I’ve ridden a few times with them here in NC. It is a non-violent method of keeping these idiots at bay and away from the families during the time of closure. Usually, when the Phelps’ group see/hear the bikes and see the bikers, they quickly beat a path of retreat!
Patriot Guard Riders...and I’ll just bet that they are well aware of this one.
Phred Phelps does not deserve a non violent response, regardless of what the law states.

Great, more from the guy parading the banner for the homosexuals to denigrate Christians. The transparency is so obvious some may be too blind to see that his demonstrations do more to propagate the homosexual agenda of undermining Christianity.

I agree with you completely and I certainly do stand against these deviants. This is another sneaking trick of the hateful homosexual agenda—they ain’t the Will and Grace show. Ask the representative in OK that challenged the homosexual perversity about all the death threats and hate mail she received from the deviant crowd.

Ironically that the media has used Phelps’ family’s cult to smear Christians and the critics of the homosexual agenda but the “anti-war movement” is not tarnished by Phelps’ protesting funerals.
Fellow travellers get a pass. After all, look at how many Communists make their politics quite clear on their banners and literature they sell at the so called “peace” protests yet the media NEVER uses the word Communist to describe ANY of the participants. “Well that’s just name calling, ya fascist.”
Fred Phelps has run for office several times, each as a DEMOCRAT. A FACT conveniently supressed by the media.

It is indeed truly sad to think of people so heartless that they must try to inflict more emotional torment at a time when the emotional pain is already great.
Many of our members don't ride bikes, the only prerequisite is respect.

The truly sad fact is that Phelps and his crew are honestly convinced that they are doing God's work on Earth, and that they will be rewarded by Him for having kept the faith. My own personal opinion is that when that moment comes, Fred and his clan are in for quite a let-down.
You are right. God is not mocked.
God loves all His identified and potential children. It is, therefore, wrong to point out individuals whom we think God hates. One never can tell when God might take a murdering Paul and turn him into an Apostle.
Phelps and Westboro are so wrong.
I am not advocating violence against Phelps, but I would like to note that there’s no way the Westboro protests don’t fall under the “fighting words” exemption to free speech rights.
I had a feeling this would happen.
Our brothers and sisters in the Ohio PGR will not let this happen.
