WASHINGTON -- Pope Benedict XVI, in a dramatic move likely to alter forever the image of his pontificate, met this afternoon with five victims of clergy sexual abuse from Boston.
The private meeting, which was first reported by the Globe this afternoon and has since been confirmed by the Vatican, was brokered by Cardinal Sean P. OMalley of Boston.

I just heard on Catholic radio station that the meeting was with six victims, in the Chapel, and the Pope wanted it private and no cameras out of respect for the folks involved and also so it would not be politicized or made into a media event.

God bless this Holy Father!!!
Do you think this will finally shut the media up on his 'lack of action' with regard to abuse victims?

The media wouldn’t be satisfied if the Pope ripped his own heart out on national T.V. The Pope represents everything hated by most media types.

when he removes Mahoney (SP?) then the healing will begin. It would take more than Cardinal Mahony! Here are some facts regarding the rights of bishops.
Why Doesn't the Pope Do Something about "Bad" Bishops?
And, just in case you are wondering how Roger Mahony was made a Cardinal, the following article will shed some light on that.
Still Proud Of Bishops He Gave U.S.
If it's any consolation, here int he RC Diocese of Albany NY we are also stuck with a Jadot appointed bishop who has served for 30+ years! There is not much left of this diocese where the bishop in collaboration with his small number of priests, has closed nearly half the parishes and schoold.

That sentence in the article leaped out at me, too, causing me to wonder if the author were from another planet.
