I sent my greetings out a bit earlier via FR mail, but what the hey, I’ll post them here too!

My dear Jewish Free Republic friends,

I’ll be offline over the weekend, so I want to send each of you my deepest wishes for a very joyful and blessed Passover. May each of you experience the joy of the deliverance of your ancestors from the Egyptian Army by the Lord. May you celebrate with many great things to eat (and eat a few things for me).

From my heart to you, the Aaronic Benediction: The LORD bless you and keep you; the LORD make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you; the LORD lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace.

Or to put it in my own lingo: God bless y’all real, real good!

Best from Virginia

Everyone gather up the chamez.

Beer going over to my Baptist neighbor’s house last, as he will drink it.

Champaign going to the mormons across the street, as they will not drink it.

Happy Passover! My husband and I are going to a Christian Passover celebration in Kentucky this weekend. I think it will probably be pretty accurately done as the people holding it have lived in Israel a lot in recent years.

Thanks. Happy Passover to you and yours as well.

Shame on me; I’ve been working so much I didn’t even realize Pesach was coming. I wondered why the Pope gave a Pesach message and why there was a table of Manishevitz products instead of the usual ‘great pork products of Iowa’ in our local store.

And me with a Jewish calendar next to my desk, even.

Happy Pesach. By what time should I have all the chanetz taken out? There is a family nearby that has many children and they told me I could give it all to them. I didn't plan well and have a lot of shredded wheat cereal and bread in stock. Old man's cluttered house. Our local store has no kosher for pesach food .. Next year I'll do better. (Today I am one year free of tobacco after sixty three years with the help of Hashem, A Miracle!)

You remain in my prayers. Will you be participating in a community Seder? Does your son take part in it?

I have lifted up my eyes to the mountains, from whence help shall come to me. My help is from the Lord, who made heaven and earth. May he not suffer thy foot to be moved: neither let him slumber that keepeth thee. Behold he shall neither slumber nor sleep, that keepeth Israel. The Lord is thy keeper, the Lord is thy protection upon thy right hand. The sun shall not burn thee by day: nor the moon by night. The Lord keepeth thee from all evil: may the Lord keep thy soul. May the Lord keep thy going in and thy going out; from henceforth now and for ever.

I guess I can't improve on that ... so I won't try. :')

"I have lifted up my eyes to the mountains, from whence help shall come to me." That is the psalm we recite at bed time. In Hebre it is "Esa et Hashem al ainai al he harim Mayaiyn ezri" So I think the correct translation shoud be future tense,, "I will lift up mine eyes to the mountains" " From where does my help come from?" and the old KIng James translation has it thi way which I think is better.

I do not propose to debate translations on this thread ... so I shall let it suffice to say I hope that reading and meditating on that psalm is at least as much a vehicle of The Lord’s grace and holiness for you as it is for me.

Yes it is. It is the first psalm my Mother,of Blessed Memory, taught me.

I’m afraid I’ve let myself drown in the duties of new faculty. I hardly know what day it is, much less that it is Passover. I missed my sister’s birthday and almost missed my son’s - both w/n 2 days of each other this month. That never happened before. So, no Seder for me. Like you, I will try to do better next year. : )

Congrats on being smoke free! You may recall my mentioning that my step-father died of lung cancer this time last year. I can’t believe he continued to smoke for so long after the data came out. But again, congrats to you. It’s never too late to stop smoking.

I have been vegan for almost 3 months now and loving it. My diabetes numbers have improved, and I am looking forward to improvements in cholesterol, etc. when I get blood work done later this month. My average numbers have dropped by 50 points and I look forward to them dropping even more as time goes by. I’ve also lost some weight and am fitting into clothes I had before I started grad school.

I need the semester to be over.

Re the chametz - I’m no expert and I’m not Orthodox. I used to just put everything away in one cabinet.

Thanks for the update, and congratulations on your diet.
And this is your first year there which you would expect
to be a little disorganized next year will be easier.

For the year 2008, Passover starts when Shabbat concludes at nightfall, Saturday, April 19th, and ends at nightfall, Sunday, April 27th.

For practical purposes, because of Shabbat, you really need to be done by sundown today (FRIDAY).

I am drinking beer and it’s 3:04 in the afternoon where I am. Someone has to get rid of the chametz.
