Pope set to meet Rowan Williams

VATICAN CITY (Reuters) - Pope Benedict is expected to meet the Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams on Monday in only the second official meeting between the two religious leaders, a Vatican source said on Sunday.

The meeting comes less than two months after the Vatican's top officials for relations with Islam criticised Williams as mistaken and naive for suggesting that some aspects of Sharia law in Britain were unavoidable.

The spiritual leader for the world's 77 million Anglicans, Williams -- who sparked a political storm with the Sharia comments -- last held talks with the Pope in November 2006.

Ties between the two churches have been strained over the past decade over the issue of women priests and homosexual bishops in the Anglican Church, which both leaders have acknowledged as obstacles to unity.

I’d rather meet Rowan Atkins, myself.

Geez, what a start — I first read that as “Pope set to meet Robin Williams”.

The Pope would probably rather meet Rowan Atkinson, too!

Rowan will probably apologize for the Episcopal Church Presiding Bishop’s snub of the Pope whilst in America.

Weird headline.

Why not "Pope to meet Archbishop of Canterbury"?

Seems like they're dissing Williams by not using his official title and simply calling him by his secular name. They're probably still steamed after his "sharia" remarks but that's no reason to address him like any Joe Bloggs.

Perhaps it's English print media headline editor SOP to diss druids.

Why not "Pope to meet Archbishop of Canterbury"?

Maybe because "Pope to meet Archdruid of Canterbury" might be offensive to Druids.

Not being Anglican, myself, I'm reluctant to criticize the Anglicans' choice of leadership. And they didn't ask me ...

but if they had, I'd have told them they'd be 'way better off with Rowan Atkinson than Rowan Williams in the top spot.

I think it would be cool to have some cocktails with Rowan & Martin.
