(Evangelical) Frank Schaeffer: Pro-life and Pro-Obama
Zoecarnate ^ | 7 Feb 2008 | Frank Schaeffer

Posted on 06/08/2008 11:12:24 AM PDT by big'ol_freeper

“I am an Obama supporter. I am also pro-life. In fact, without my family’s involvement in the pro-life movement it would not exist as we know it. Evangelicals weren’t politicized until after my late father and evangelical leader Francis Schaeffer, Dr. Koop (Reagan’s soon-to-be Surgeon General) and I stirred them up over the issue of abortion in the mid-1970s. Our Whatever Happened to the Human Race? book, movie series and seminars brought the evangelicals into the pro-life movement.

“In 2000, we elected a president who claimed he believed God created the earth and who, as president, put car manufacturers and oil company’s interests ahead of caring for that creation. We elected a pro-life Republican Congress that did nothing to actually care for pregnant women and babies. And they took their sincere evangelical followers for granted, and played them for suckers…the “pro-life” ethic of George W. Bush manifested itself in a series of squandered opportunities to call us to our better natures. After 9/11, Bush told most Americans to go shopping while saddling the few who volunteered for military service with endless tours of duty (something I know a little about since my son was a Marine and deployed several times). The Bush doctrine of life was expressed by starting an unnecessary war in Iraq that has killed thousands of Americans and wounded tens of thousands more.

“Today when I listen to Obama speak (and to his remarkable wife, Michelle) what I hear is a world view that actually nurtures life. Obama is trying to lead this country to a place where the intrinsic worth of each individual is celebrated. A leader who believes in hope, the future, trying to save our planet and providing a just and good life for everyone is someone who is actually pro-life.”

No one can be both. Impossible. They contradict one another.

You got that right. There are a whole slew of these guys around now. Solid Christians used to be solidly conservative. Now we see this conservative Catholic theologian, Kriec, and this guy..as well as others. There are obviously some very confused folks out there.

Frank Schaeffer is not an evangelical. He's converted some years ago to the Orthodox Church.
Obama is trying to lead this country to a place where the intrinsic worth of each individual is celebrated.

Yeah, great, whatever. Obama wants me disarmed, ie. dead. By me, that's not pro-life.

Here is scriptural support for this:

Matthew 24:10-14

10Then many will fall away,* and they will betray one another and hate one another. 11And many false prophets will arise and lead many astray. 12And because of the increase of lawlessness, the love of many will grow cold. 13But anyone who endures to the end will be saved. 14And this good news* of the kingdom will be proclaimed throughout the world, as a testimony to all the nations; and then the end will come.

The title is a bit misleading. Franky is not an evangelical.

He hasn’t left all of his roots, and I suspect he’ll be back someday - but it’s a gross exaggeration to say he’s an evangelical.

Obama has voted repeatedly for abortion and partial birth abortion.

He also accepts money from Planned Parenthood, and saw that Planned Parenthood got an earmark.

‘Bama = corruption and killing humans.

I thought the same thing. Back in the late 70’s we attended a weekend seminar with Dr. Koop and Dr. Schaeffer. Frankie was nowhere to be seen. His part came when his dad let him make a video series out of the book and the lecture. He was in no way an originator of the movement.

Schaeffer has been an outspoken hater of Bush and the war, even though his son chose to go fight.

He IS the son of evangelical great Francis Schaeffer...but has drifted from his father's world view.

an unnecessary war in Iraq that has killed thousands of Americans

How these morons can compare the voluntary service of grown men and women who are defending our nation...to the unvoluntary murders of millions of innocent children...is so far beyond me that I can only respond by being infinitely more grateful for my faith in The Lord...Jesus, come quickly!

His father was the great Francis Schaeffer (follow your own link: “Frank Schaeffer, scion of intellectual fundamentalist demigod Francis Schaeffer, has come out in support of Barak Obama” http://zoecarnate.wordpress.com/2008/03/05/frank-schaeffer-pro-life-and-pro-obama/

And Frank’s son is John Schaeffer, who joined the USMC.

So again, what is your agenda for trying to tag the evangelicals?

“This is a VERY strange political season.”

Not really. All this has been seen before. I know Obambi is a Marxist from who he associates with and shares their philosophy.

I think what is appealing to the conservatives disenchanted with the GOP and the admin, is Marx’s Theory of Alienation.

Obambi is presenting it sugar-coated. A lot of Marx sounds good in theory, but disasterous in practice. Stalin and the old Soviet Union are being presented now as miscarriages of Marxian principle. So, the game is now to turn a fully capitalized civilization into a Marxist paradise. It’s probably crossed with that abomination, Communitarianism, e.g, Bill Clinton’s abortive thrust into it.

And it will invariably have the same results. Marxism and Hegelian thought are just evils.

My fear is that people are not aware of history, and the chilren today certainly have absolutely no understanding of the past.

The elder Schaeffer was one of two foundational authors to me in my early days as a Christian; the other was G.K. Chesterton. When I got far enough into Schaeffer's writings, I noticed that his son, "Frank," was involved in the "How Should We Then Live?" video series. Without knowing any other biographical info on Franky, I thought, "At least there is some remnant of the late Doctor in his son." It wasn't until later that I learned of Schaeffer the Younger's work, beliefs, and attitude towards Francis and Edith. What a disappointment.

Then came "Crazy for God." I think Franky believed that he was doing his dear departed parents a service by writing it.
