Bush also broke protocol when he welcomed the Pontiff last April 15. Bush, accompanied by his wife and daughter Jenna, went to Andrews Air Force Base to receive the Pope -- an honor the president has never given to a visiting head of state. The next day, Benedict XVI's 81st birthday, the president hosted a celebration in the White House.
The Holy Father's welcome is meant to repay the president for his cordiality, Jesuit Father Federico Lombardi, director of the Vatican press office, said.
Bush will be accompanied by his wife and by Mary Ann Glendon, the U.S. envoy to the Holy See.
After their meeting, the Pope and president will walk through the Vatican Gardens where the Sistine Chapel choir will perform for them.
This will be Bush's second visit to the Vatican and it takes place as part of a trip to Slovenia, Germany, Italy, France and Britain. The president last visited Benedict XVI in the Vatican in June 2007.

Two gentlemen of class.
Bush is a GOOD and DECENT man.....and I LOVE this POPE!!!
How wonderful!
I’m impressed by both of them. Ping to NYer!
I think we will discover that George and Laura have or will become Catholic once he leaves office. His brother Jeb is Catholic as is his wife. The overwhelming cordiality bespeaks more than just respect, but a sense of real “commonality or deep friendship.”
Oh........er...........almost forgot......< /sarcasm>

That would be wonderful. They seem to be good people, at peace with themselves.
** think we will discover that George and Laura have or will become Catholic once he leaves office.**
I totally agree. There is more to this story than we now know.
I was so going to jump on your post until I saw the sarcasm tag and who wrote it.
And what’s really sad is that your post could have been real on FR.
The forum is teeming with kooks.
Those wonderful photos of JP The Great and Ronaldus Maximus come to mind.
I’ll bet the nuns cook up a nice lunch for the Bush family. The Vatican gardens would be a wonderful place to dine.
Viva Il Papa!!
Frank...I believe you are correct. I pray it is so.
What you said :)
when the world seems like a cesspool (thank you, 24/7 mass media and those in positions of power and influence) it’s nice to see a couple of men who rise far above and show us what we can, what we should, be.
Ditto's!
I would love to be a fly on the wall when they talk. How awesome, two of my favorite people having a chat.
Something quite extraordinary is going on here.
When I think of the burdens this president has had to bear, and the quite undeserved venomous hatred and scorn, I'm glad that he and His Holiness appear to have an understanding. I certainly don't agree with all of the President's decisions, disagree with quite a number of them actually, but he seems to be a good and honest man who doesn't merit the sort of maniacal hatred he triggers in some quarters.
I have heard, though only at second hand, that he quit attending the Methodist church in D.C. because the preachers would launch on him personally during the sermons. He's been going to the Episcopal church (St. John's?) instead. While Piskies are complete loons, they would not be so ill-bred as to denounce the President from the pulpit.
But no serious Christian can really consider becoming an Episcopalian at this point.
Hi Mom!
If he starts having the “Papist Five” from SCOTUS over for lunch, you will know this is fire.
BTW, the American Thinker had an amazing article on the left the other day. I saw it linked to a post on Wretchard’s Belmont Club. See if you can find it.
I get a kick out of finding you posting on the fine points of armaments. I need another shotgun, by the way.

I prefer the Rem 870 for hunting (and that is the make and model our retriever club has standardized on, sure makes hunt tests easier when you know where the safety is . . . ),the Rem 1100 and 1148 for skeet and sporting clays, and I've been very satisfied with my Stoeger coach gun for cowboy action shooting, once I got the chambers honed out so the spent shells fall out when you break the action and flip it upright.
I had my first under-40-second stage on Saturday!!!!! One miss, which cost me a 5 second penalty, 'cause I started thinking about picking up my shotgun before I shot the last rifle target . . . . < rats! >
I gave a quick look at Belmont Club and AT for the article, but didn't see it. Let me know if you run across it again.
