CH Spurgeon called it "the Down-Grade", when preachers and churches fell away from the pure Truth of God's Word for those methods and teachings that would appeal to the flesh.
It ain't stopped and the technology of today make it obvious to anyone with spiritual discernment (that of the Holy Spirit) to see the danger and falsehood of "the Down-Grade".
I meant to include the following: click the link to open a You Tube video - here’s the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jtVGxJU-j2I
Do you have additional information you want to impart because I am not getting what you are putting down.
I have seen people slain in the Spirit. I have seen people healed. I have seen people dance with joy while they are singing praise and worship songs.
Of course there are those who cater to the flesh but there is not enough information in your post to figure out what you are trying to say.
Are you kidding? That’s got to be the shallowest bit of cynical propaganda that I’ve ever seen.
I’ve been a new-ager (kundalini yoga and self-hypnosis, in fact) and I’ve been a miracle believing Christian. There simply is no comparison.
Spurgeon was a Calvinist. He saw Arminianism taking over the church and called that the downgrade.
Now that you mention that, I have a question. What *is* a "praise-and-worship song". Do traditional hymns not contain praise and worship? Are p&w songs viewed on a screen rather than read (with musical parts provided!) from a book? Or what?

Balaam's ass!
“Spurgeon was a Calvinist. He saw Arminianism taking over the church and called that the downgrade.”
Amen - Arminianism and more. I just finished a 2 part “autobiography” of Spurgeon - quite interesting.
This morning I used the hymnal instead of the screen. I found it easier to follow the tune while reading the notes as I sang. But, to each his own. :)
I’m sure your voice is delightful to Him.
Hymns do indeed include praise and worship and, in my opinion, to a much greater depth than "praise-and-worship songs". Ultimately, the term refers to the style of music more than anything. Hymns are usually old songs (200+ years old, in most cases) that are written in a style of music that is correspondingly old. "Praise and worship" songs are more modern songs, with a folk or rock and roll sound (depending on where you go, who arranged it, etc.). My dad used to say that in hymns you repeat the tune and with contemporary songs you repeat the words.
This is what I thought, but I wondered why the songs weren't just called rock, contemporary, ditty, or whatever. Calling them "praise and worship" seems to me to indicate that these are their distinctive features, as if "All Hail the Power of Jesus' Name" didn't reflect praise or worship, and now, finally, we have something that does.
Being “slain in the spirit” is the work of Satan. Such is not found in Scripture as the work of God. When people “fall down as dead” (such as in Rev 1:17), they fall face down in humility. People getting knocked down backwards are enemies of God, such as in John 18:6.
Sensationalism such as what the video reveals appeals to the flesh, whereas Christians are called to walk by faith, not sight.
It will be a BIG surprise for many, for many are deceived in this matter. No doubt, your reply was sarcastic; mine is not.
I know a guy who has also been a new ager (kundalini, self hypnosis, consulting spirits) and he says there is. Which of you is correct?
Oh that's right. My guy also understands the problems with Rick Warren. As I recall, you don't. That would lead me to trust my guy's understanding of it a little more than yours.
I’ve seen it too. I don’t see any difference between pagan ecstatic practices and the stuff that is attributed to “the Holy Spirit” (nothing like what the Bible describes) these days.
From Faith in Faith to Faith in Christ:
Mass stage hypnosis. Same mob mentality psychological techniques used by the more ‘successful’ dictators in the world.
Anything we sing from our hearts is praise and worship. Our church uses contemporary worship music and sometimes hymns or parts of them. It’s really the heart that is bent to worship, not the songs we sing, although they can bring us to the point of awe and worship. But if our hearts aren’t right, then no amount of music will be true worship, no matter what kind it is.
Yeah. Must be I’ve been worshiping the devil all along. I’ve even had ‘holy’ laughter a couple of times. It was very freeing at a time when I had a lot of stuff going on inside.
Nice to hear from you again!
So tell me, who DO you approve of? Anybody?
Be careful before you answer- we all have our problems.
