Bishops turning back on Lambeth
BBC ^ | June 25, 2008 | Robert Pigott

Posted on 06/25/2008 8:10:21 PM PDT by T Ruth

For a century the Lambeth Conference has been one of the events keeping intact this largest Protestant church grouping in the world.

Now, for the first time, and just when the Anglican Communion is most at risk of disintegration, almost a third of the bishops invited to attend have decided to boycott the meeting.

It is a blow to the Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams who wants to use the conference to heal the rift over sexuality which has driven the Communion to the brink of a permanent split.

The 250 bishops who have said they will stay away from the conference are attending what amounts to a rival meeting in Jerusalem.

It’s a pity. But this thing has been brewing for a long time, hasn’t it? The radicals just kept pushing until they caused a split. Those of good conscience had to leave or be tainted. It was predictable. If unity was the goal, the radicals should have been purged a long time ago, like removing a cancer from the body.

I am actually quite impressed at the patience the “conservative” Bishops have shown until now. Their seperate conference (and indeed, an entirely separate church) were due long ago.

Just last week, two gay Anglican priests in the UK were married in an Anglican church. This in itself shows that the split is not merely a leadership issue, it is a core value and culture issue on which the two sides can not be further apart.

Let the traditional church, headed by the African Bishops leave immediately and form their own Communion. Whatever Church remains, those that interpret the Bible and Christianity as it chooses according to the fashions of the secular age, will soon simply cease to exist.

It would be easy to heal the rift; just return to Scripture and defrock Vicki Gene.

Ironical that the bishop of Rochester is snubbing the Primate. Once upon a time it cost a bishop from that see his head, I mean literally. St. John Fisher.

My guess is that THIS pope would not hesitate to receive a visit from a representative of the Jerusalem meeting. We have many differences with these Anglicans but more in common.

Interesting, isn’t it, that they pushed until they got a split?

The enemy does his best work by destroying the unity of the body.

In another time, Rowan Williams would be burned at the stake.

Excellent coverage of GAFCON can be found at Stand Firm

http://www.standfirminfaith.com/

It think GAFCON is the Global Anglican Futures Conference.
It is the orthodox answer to Lambeth. Read the opening sermon by ABP Akinola for a inspiring example of faith and trust in Jesus.

There is lots of speculation and false reporting from the liberal press. The libs are really in a snit about this meeting and are working overtime to portray it in a bad light.

I am waiting to see what statement or paper is issued at the close of the Conference before I get excited one way or the other. I AM praying for all those who are attending though. :)

It would be easy to heal the rift; just return to Scripture and defrock Vicki Gene.

The grass roots of the ECUSA are driven by the common culture. When society is more civilized, the ECUSA is more civilized. Right now, the grass roots of the ECUSA sincerely believe that Jesus would insist that sexual deviants are not unrepentant sinners and need to have their own wedding ceremonies in order to feel included.

You can't 'make' an Episcopalian do anything against their own will. They know this fact since their church has always been neither catholic or protestant, in their eyes.
