Pray for the parishioners of Holy Trinity, both German and Tridentine Mass communities. They learned Tuesday that the decree closing their Church will be read ON the last Sunday, this week. NO notice of how they will be accomodated, except that there will be NO German Mass and NO Tridentine Mass provided by the Archdiocese July 6 or in the immediate future to fulfill their Pastoral needs. Parishioners themselves are scrambling to provide for themselves, but do not yet have any Masses or Churches arranged.
What Parishes have initiatives in place?
I’m going to end up back at my geographic Parish, too much Dan Schutte, but not much choice.
Noon is too late and Newton too far away.
The HT “Transition Committee’ has approached Fr. Anda and the parishioners at Saint Columbkille’s in Brighton, with a request that they formally petition the pastor for a TLM each Sunday. The understanding would be that the Traddies at HT would transfer their TLM attendance over to Brighton. Between them and the “native” parishioners who might want this, there could be an immediate infusion of close to 200 people to the parish. This can only be a good thing for all involved parties.
A further request was made that the Germans also be accomodated, but I’m not sure how that one will pan-out, short of their invitation to transfer over under the TLM. No timeframe has been worked out, but I believe the transition committee indicated that they’d much prefer to see the TLM given some kind of morning timeslot, to accomodate thae folks commuting some distance.
Other than that, there still aren’t too many choices yet, and the few places where the TLM has been tried have lots of “rubrical problems” to iron out. If Newton is too far for you, then St. Col’s might, depending on the time the Mass is slotted in, be your best bet.
I know quite a number of the St.Col’s parishioners as I live in Brighton and all are very welcoming especially the Spanish Mass people. I also have positive support from 5 parish council members. We just need to talk with the Pastor and beg him to take us in.
On a side note taking with minority HT parishioners last Sunday they requested a more city parish as apposed to suburban parish because it would be more diverse. A few felt MIL is very white. They would be more comfortable in a city Church which makes St. Col’s our best option to make them feel at home.
