Yesterday, Catholic League president Bill Donohue issued a news release calling attention to the plea that Paul Zachary Myers made on his blog: he solicited the Communion Host for the express purpose of desecrating it. Donohue now responds to the reaction he has received from the University of Minnesota Morris professor, as well as others:
Myers went on Houston radio station KPFT last night saying that Bill Donohue has declared a fatwa against him. He should know betterI dont need others to do the fighting for me. Im quite good at it myself. But hed better be careful what he says, because if I get any death threats, it wont be hard to connect the dots.
Myers, who claims expertise in studying zebrafish, has quite a following among the King Kong Theory of Creation gang. Indeed, weve been inundated with hate mail from all over the world, and it all stems from those whose alleged god is reason.
As a result of the hysteria that Myers ilk have promoted, at least one public official is taking it seriously. Thomas E. Foley is chairman of Virginias First Congressional District Republican Committee, a delegate to the Republican National Convention and one of two Republican at large nominees for Virginias Electoral College. His concern is for the safety of Catholics attending this years Republican National Convention in Minneapolis, Myers backyard. Accordingly, Foley has asked the top GOP brass to provide additional security while in the Twin Cities so that Catholics can worship without fear of violence. Given the vitriol we have experienced for simply exercising our First Amendment right to freedom of speech, we support Foleys request.
We already know that Myers lost one round: the university has removed the link to his blog from his faculty page. He should be prepared to lose a few more rounds. By the way, Myers says he is delighted to have finally garnered my attention. Too bad I cant say the sameI never heard of the guy until yesterday.

It seems we have now entered a new era of persecution. It begins small but we can expect it will intensify with time.
Do they fix specimens in some kind of hallucinogenic material or what?
“It seems we have now entered a new era of persecution. It begins small but we can expect it will intensify with time.”
Certainly east of the Adriatic there has been a substantial increase in the persecution of Eastern Christians, generally by our Mohammedan allies and/or the beneficiaries of our foreign aid largess. Washington, no longer surprisingly, stands by and does absolutely nothing.

“Washington, no longer surprisingly, stands by and does absolutely nothing.”
Washington, the only four-letter word that has ten letters.
This isn’t going to stop until Christians fight back.
Who is going to sue the SOB?
Who is going after his job?
Who is going to make life uncomfortable for him.
In fact, although I keep my eye on this Donohue guy like a hawk, I missed Myers threats against him.
Much as I'd hate to see Donohue actually harmed by one of these pukes I know that if Myers did harm him he'd never get out of prison ~ which would probably be for the best.
Does anyone know if Donohue is ready and willing to get into as many fights as he sounds like?
You're right ... the christians of the East have been persecuted for such a long time. But now, a different form of it has arrived in the West. Secularism is right up there with Islam.
Donohue is in my parish. He’s more than willing to get into it verbally, but I don’t think he’s a fisticuffs kind of guy.
Speaking of which, my parish has had two incidents this month. I’m told at one mass last week, someone from the Evangelical church across the street walked in and kept shouting “Alleluia” or “Jesus Saves” or something at inappropriate points during the Mass just to be disruptive and had to be removed. The pastor apparently had to call the minister at the evangelical church to ask him to tell his flock not to do such things. This week - I was present for this one — someone walked in, sat down in the front row and started disrupting the Eucharistic Prayer doing something similar. The priest stopped the Mass, told him to get out, and when the disrupter started shouting (I couldn’t hear exactly what, I was behind him but it was something along the lines of “Jesus loves you/be saved”) told the ushers to call 911. They think this guy may just have been a kook, but his entry came right as the services at the place across the street let out. Interesting. We appear to be under assault from the Assemblies of God.
The frightening thing is the number of people springing to Myers’ defense on the internet, using very vitriolic, anti-Catholic language. If Myers and his ilk have their way, we will see real religious persecution in this country.
That's based on my observation that nutjobs like Myers usually end up bumping, bashing, smashing, or physically harrassing someone who doesn't put up with that sort of thing.
BTW, even if Myers victim doesn't do the job and just pursues prosecution, Myers will meet the tooth removing guy in jail ~ and you can just ask yourself why someone in jail would knock out someone's front teeth.
Now, as far as the guys across the street coming into your church and praising God, do you imagine in all cases that they are doing it for your benefit, or because they are inspired by the power, majesty and beauty of God as displayed on the ceiling, walls, floor and alter piece of your church ~ (not that they would be doing anything to harrass you)?
We go up to the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception a couple of times a year. There are services going on in different places, tourists wandering around, and amazingly poeople overcome with religious fervor ~ not all of whom are Cristian. They say things. The services continue.
I've seen the same in European cathedrals (although not with the throngs of people you can find at the National Shrine).
The design and decoration of top end Catholic church buildings has come about after many centuries of effort to find a way to passively elicit religious attitude and praise from those who enter. I'm not sure anybody should be concerned about it working on Assemblies of God folks.
BTW, two really inspiring religious artifices at the National Shrine ~ on a really blue sky day the cross at the top can be seen to float against the skyblue roof which merges with the sky. Then, Christ Pantocrator on the ceiling is an incredible piece of art.
Clearly you haven’t seen my 1960s-era Catholic Church. :-)
All it usually inspires is the question, “is this really a CATHOLIC church? It looks Protestant.”
I've observed that France has many churches that closely resemble these buildings. Had an ancestor actually build one and along with it a poorhouse. It's still standing; looks very Methodist, and if it weren't for the fact it's within spitting distance of the Loire river you'd never realize it's actually a quite historic Catholic church.
No doubt a quality architect did the original design, and it's held up to become internationally popular. BTW, he built the primary structure about 1450, so it's not like this design hasn't been around awhile.
