Catholic Online (www.catholic.org)

"It’s trendy to reject religious reflection as a grave offense against decency. That’s not only cowardly. That’s false. Faith and reason are knitted together in the human soul. So don’t leave home without either one."

President George W. Bush (L) and White House Press Secretary Tony Snow return from an event at the Quantico Marine Base to the White House in Washington, September 14, 2007. Snow, who battled colon cancer, has died.

CHESAPEAKE, VA (Catholic Online) – Tony Snow, whose Catholic faith, superb communication skills, and work ethic propelled him to prominence in the world of media, journalism and communications, has died after his courageous battle with colon cancer.

Honored by the Catholic University of America in May of 2007, Tony Snow gave the crowd which gathered for the 118th Annual Commencement Address: "Reason, Faith, and Vocation" much to ponder.

The title summed up his efforts to integrate his faith, his commitment to marriage and family, his political and policy convictions and a career of communications.

It was also characteristically blunt and practical while rising at times to the level of inspired insight. That was Tony Snow’s gift of communications. He used it throughout a career which was accompanied by earning the respect of his peers, even if they disagreed with his positions.

I've had it in my head yesterday(when it was so filled with sorrow at OUR LOSS, not his) that Tony was a Catholic for quite a while. I knew he was at his Entrance to Eternity.

I will never find another journalist who satisfies me more ... nor one I love more. His joy in life, was inspirational, even when I did not agree with every word.

Please feed and fill your soul with his words on Christianity Today posted 7/20/07 and titled Cancer's Unexpected Blessing.

I copied it so I don't remember the exact thread and hope you will use the info I could provide, it is SO worth your search.

Let me know if you too are as impressed as I am with this particular writing!

“When it comes to faith, I’ve taken my own journey. You will have to take your own. But here’s what I know. Faith is as natural as the air we breathe. Religion is not an opiate, just the opposite. It is the introduction to the ultimate extreme sport. There is nothing that you can imagine that God cannot trump.

Just awesome!

The daughter of some friends graduted Catholic U.in May of 2007, and my friends really enjoyed Tony's speech.

God sure blessed Tony Snow, he was an extraordinarily talented. He had a beautiful joyful spirit. He was a wonderful Father and husband! And he could make the libs in press look like the fools they were. The more I read his words, I am really impressed by the way he could twist a phrase. He was deeply intellectual. I wish we had more Tony Snows out there to combat the liberal media and pundits. He will be sorely missed. I pray that his family will be comforted during this trying time. May the angles wrap their wings around them. And May Tony Snow Rest in Peace!

I had already read it on another thread, but my cousin, a Baptist Missionary and Gideon, forwarded it to me today. It appears to be making the rounds, very powerful words.

One cannot overestimate the good that Tony did during his all to short time here on earth. Hearing him speak so honestly and passionately about his faith must have inspired many who listened.
