That's because many evangelicals have little theological depth.

I was actually sharing a recent event. The event was a discussion of faith with a believer who has fallen from the faith in the past few years. His excuse is his divorce from his wife after she had betrayed their marriage commitment one too many times.

He may have little theological depth, and may have very little theological understanding for reasons I am currently not privy to. But, that is not the case for evangelicals as a whole, nor is it the case for many I know. Those that are faithful to the Word seek a deeper understanding of the Character of God through the Word. As Peter said, "...long for the pure milk of the Word, so that you may grow in respect to salvation..."

Of course, there are some - too many - across all denominations, that have very little clue about wha they believe, or why they belive it. So, in effect, you statement in true, however, incomplete.
