BRESSANONE, Italy - Serenaded by an oompah band and chiming church bells, Pope Benedict XVI ended a two-week vacation in the Italian Alps on Monday and returned to his summer residence in the hills outside Rome.
The 81-year-old pontiff looked well rested as he said goodbye from the main window of the seminary in the northeastern town of Bressanone where he was staying.

Oh how I’ve missed him! Glad he had a restful vacation but grateful to have him back home.
Every day we grow more and more grateful that he’s the Pope.
*****************
Amen!
I like thinking of him reading quietly, napping, listening to music... especially after all of the excitement of the last few months.
So do we hershey, so do we....
If I may ask, what specifically are you grateful about, Gamecock?
I’ll bet he and his brother immersed themselves in a wonderful musical experience, especially Mozart, their favorite. And the Pope could play the piano to his heart’s content. He should be well rested now, and ready to roll!
How wonderful that the Pope had a nice visit with his brother. We can recall the sad experience of John Paul II whose only sibling, his brother, who was a doctor, perished treating victims of some outbreak when JP II was a boy.
Nuttin'.
It's just a provocation and he won't reply.
Ignore him and don't take the bait.
Oddly enough, the fact that the Pope is once again Catholic.
Under the previous administration many Proddies were swept away with joy over what they perceived as a wave of ecumenical spirit wafting from Rome.
These Proddies were encouraged by such documents as ECT, which really didn’t grant us anything, but the title misled some of us.
Anyway, now that the Pope is Catholic again, we know where we stand.
Why would I do that. Sounds to me like you are violating the spirit of the FR RF rules.
Great point. I can almost see you gesturing...."Who? Moi? Sheesh, just because I spend every waking moment digging up trash on the Catholic Church you think I'm looking for trouble?".
"Why would I do that", you ask? Can you say "track record"? How about "lengthy track record"?
I also note the ping out to your fellow travelers in #6. A strange thing to do when the thread deals with a subject as innocuous and uncontroversial as the Pope's return from holiday.
I therefore conclude that you know you've made a provocative comment and are expecting some fallout, hence the call to your pals. It certainly wouldn't be for the purpose of discussing the Pope's vacation.
Digging? Just enter Catholic on Google News. There isn't any "digging required. It's on the surface.
Every Pope has been Catholic.
Those who are consumed by a centuries-old grudge against the Catholic Church are prone to do pretty hateful things.
Very true. On this forum we've learned just how "ecumenical" this current (and now well-rested) pope is and how he still carries the baggage of the Middle Ages.
"Rome has not essentially changed. Rome declared that what it said at the time of the Reformation was infallible and could not change. Declared it to be irreformible truth. Rome has not changed and precious truths of God's word are still worth upholding even at the cost of unity even at the cost of being considered "troublemakers" in the religious world. We need to guard the antithesis against the destructive error of Rome." -- Dr. Greg L. Bahnsen, THE REFORMATION, October 28, 1990. "The Reformation is dying daily in our day when the Ecumenical Movement, and other forces like unto it, wish to soften the antithesis with Rome today. I want to assure you that it's not my pugnacious debating nature that makes me say we must exalt that antithesis and guard it. It's my love for the Lord Jesus Christ and the purity of His word.

It seems odd that it appears to be necessary to state this fact, but this is the Religion Forum after all. :)
Some more so than others.
(sorry for the typo.)
Amazing to see the viciousness needed to begrudge a vacation to an 81-year-old man with a full-time job.
As you said, though: this is the Religion Forum after all.
JERRY: And that's not helping any.
No.
There is no "viciousness" in any post on this thread, with the possible exception of yours.
Pope Benedict deserves a vacation. He works so hard.
***Pope Benedict deserves a vacation. He works so hard.***
Of course he does.
No, "anti-thesis" means "a different point of view; a counter argument; a disagreement."
Your comments merely reinforce the fact that Rome sees all "disagreement" as "hate," and therefore does everything in its power to extinguish contrary points of view.
As Bahnsen observed, Rome has not changed. Its error remain encased in gold, jewels, ermine, scarlet velvet and Prada shoes.
Pretty amazing comment; basically a confession that the hyper-Calvinism of people like Bahnsen is essentially a rejection of Rome, and little or nothing else.
"Salvation-by-hatred-of-Rome-alone." If clinging to an "antithesis" is not a "work," what is?
I'm glad I'm not trusting in my stubborn adherence to an "antithesis" proclaimed by sinful men to save me, but in the eternal "Yes" of Christ Jesus to the divine Will of the Father.
I’m not Roman and I fail to see the relevance of the capital city of Italy.
It’s not surprising you offer quotes from Truman. All liberals think alike.
It sounds like something Homer Simpson would say. “Guard that hatred, keep it deep down inside you. Protect it and nurture it. Feed on it.”
So pitiful, and truly born of evil.
Precisely. The kernel of Bahnsen's faith, what he sees as his identity as a Christian, is principally the rejection of Rome, not the exaltation of Jesus Christ.
Pray for new eyes.
You’re calling me liberal?
Oh my. You really ARE out of ideas.
When you specialize, you really specialize.
All theological lies are basically alike. One way or another, they all deny the sovereignty of God.
I wonder how Banhsen felt when he had to explain his anti-Catholic hatred to Christ.
I will pray for his eternal soul.
I have great confidence in God’s word that the moment Bahnsen closed his eyes for the final time he awoke in heaven next to His Savior, Jesus Christ.
That’s not God’s word, that’s your own personal interpretation of God’s word.
Good luck with that.
And we indeed justly; for we receive the due reward of our deeds: but this man hath done nothing amiss. And he said unto Jesus, Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom. And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise." -- Luke 23:40-43"But the other [thief] answering rebuked him, saying, Dost not thou fear God, seeing thou art in the same condemnation?
Rome, through its fantastical fever dream of "purgatory," makes the sacrifice of Christ incomplete, as if men needed to "purify" themselves when Christ has already accomplished that merciful gift of God to His own.
"And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God." -- 1 Corinthians 6:11
Read your Bible, Petronski. The Good News is all there. Christ has atoned for every sin of His flock. The sacrifice is complete. God has accepted the ransom for those who have received faith in Christ.
Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him." -- Romans 5:8-9
"There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit." -- Romans 8:1 "But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
Why do you seek again a "condemnation" which Christ has already lifted off your shoulders?
Your church is not telling you the truth. Why is that? Probably for the same reason anyone lies -- to control.
I had no idea Bahnsen was a thief crucified next to Christ. Amazing.
That is amazing. I have no idea the capital of Italy was so confused.
Meanwhile, the Catholic Church recognizes that the scriptural heresy known as "once saved always saved" is a misguided tradition of evil men.
Too true. What is not there is "once saved always saved," sola scriptura, sola Cauvin, Sola Machen,.
Christ has atoned for every sin of His flock. The sacrifice is complete.
You agree with the Catholic Church.
God has accepted the ransom for those who have received faith in Christ.
Congratulations! You again agree with the Catholic Church.
I do not.
Your church is not telling you the truth.
My Church, the Catholic Church founded by Christ Himself circa AD 32, is the Church of the living God, the very pillar and ground of the truth. 1 Timothy 3:15.
Probably for the same reason anyone lies -- to control.
Is that why Cauvin and Machen lied to you? Is that the explanation of the lies of Bahnsen and Spurgeon and all the rest of the rogues?
"For we are unto God a sweet savour of Christ, in them that are saved, and in them that perish" -- 2 Corinthians 2:15
"Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you, Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. Wherein ye greatly rejoice, though now for a season, if need be, ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations: That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ: Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory: Receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls." -- 1 Peter 1:3-9"For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God." -- 1 Corinthians 1:18
