No question is ever stupid. Yes, there were many prophets and teachers of the Jewish faith that died before the Twelve Apostles did.

Just where does this info come from? Matthew, Mark, Luke, John and Paul; all are documented in the New Testament, but the others? A few are mentioned later in the NT after the Gospels, but their fates are not revealed.

All except one.

Judas: Suicide.

The suicide of Judas Iscariot doesn't fall within my definition of martyrdom.

"Matthew 25:31-46 (which many Protestants incorrectly believe is a parable)"

That's a very broad brush you are painting with. I don't know of any non RCC that believes it is a parable.

Did you check the source?

You are aware, aren’t you of Holy Tradition. Stories were handed down from generation to generation about how the apostles died. (Scripture that was not accepted in the Catholic Canon of the Bible.)

Things were finally written down in apocryphal accounts and accounts of the Early Fathers of the Church.

Sorry I got my post mixed up. Should be:

However, I thought that John is "technically" considered a martyr

John is considered "a martyr in will but not in deed" because for one who loves the proclamation of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, Crucified and Risen, and who loves the body of Christ the Church, exile from the community is a fate more terrible than the sudden death of a blood martyr.

The Commites Christi festivals on the Second through Fourth Days of Christmas commemorate Stephen (a martyr in will and deed); the Holy Innocents (martyrs in deed but not in will); and St. John (a martyr in will but not in deed). There is great logic and wisdom to this "Christmastide Triduum"

OK let me rephrase the question. Did any of the 12 apostles or disciples of Jesus die before Jesus?

Only Judas who committed suicide as far as I know. The New Testament says that the apostles fled when Jesus was arrested.

Only St. John

Maybe because he was such a fast runner he was able to evade capture?

If NO Protestants believe that Matthew 25:31-46 is a parable, then why does “Parable of sheep and goats” yield so many search results?
http://search.yahoo.com/search;_ylt=A0geu8.5ZKlI1DwAuztXNyoA?p=parable+of+sheep+and+goats&fr=yfp-t-501-s&ei=UTF-8

Additionally, if NO Protestants believe that Matthew 25:31-46 is a parable then why are faith AND works dismissed?
