Prayer request for sionnsar's brother-in-law (and family)
9/07/2008 | sionnsar

Posted on 09/07/2008 7:31:44 PM PDT by sionnsar

Dear fellow FReepers,

I bid your prayers for my sister's husband Jim, my sister Jin and our family. A few years ago Jim was diagnosed with Alzheimer's and has since left us mentally. Yesterday I learned he now has pneumonia and it appears they are not (going?/able?) to treat him; communications are messed up so I'm not sure if he's still in the nursing home, in a hospital or where, but I hear of hospice and that all the medication he's receiving now is Tylenol and morphine.

This may be a mercy of sorts, but this hits doubly hard for a few of us if only because my father-in-law (a good man, and sorely missed) passed away in similar circumstances a few years ago.

Jim is, we believe, a lapsed Catholic; he was also a talented (especially in metalwork!) man always ready with a laugh -- he is already missed, but now it seems we're coming to the end.

I bid your prayers for Jim's soul, for my sister Jin as she sits by him waiting for the end, and for all of us in the final loss of in this world of a family member.

[1928 Book of Common Prayer]

LITANY FOR THE DYING.

O GOD the Father;
Have mercy upon the soul of thy servant.
O God the Son;
Have mercy upon the soul of thy servant.
O God the Holy Ghost;
Have mercy upon the soul of thy servant.
O holy Trinity, one God;
Have mercy upon the soul of thy servant.
From all evil, from all sin, from all tribulation;
Good Lord, deliver him.
By thy holy Incarnation, by thy Cross and Passion, by thy precious Death and Burial;
Good Lord, deliver him.
By thy glorious Resurrection and Ascension, and by the coming of the Holy Ghost;
Good Lord, deliver him.

We sinners do beseech thee to hear us, O Lord God; That it may please thee to deliver the soul of thy servant from the power of the evil one, and from eternal death;
We beseech thee to hear us, good Lord.
That it may please thee mercifully to pardon all his sins.
We beseech thee to hear us, good Lord.
That it may please thee to grant him a place of refreshment and everlasting blessedness;
We beseech thee to hear us, good Lord.
That it may please thee to give him joy and gladness in thy kingdom, with thy saints in light;
We beseech thee to hear us, good Lord.

O Lamb of God, who takest away the sins of the world;
Have mercy upon him.
O Lamb of God, who takest away the sins of the world;
Have mercy upon him.
O Lamb of God, who takest away the sins of the world;
Grant him thy peace.

Lord, have mercy.
Christ, have mercy.
Lord, have mercy.

OUR Father, who art in heaven, Hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, On earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, As we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, But deliver us from evil. Amen.

Let us pray.

O SOVEREIGN Lord, who desirest not the death of a sinner; We beseech thee to loose the spirit of this thy servant from every bond, and set him free from all evil; that he may rest with all thy saints in the eternal habitations; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Ghost, one God, world without end. Amen.

O Lord,
support us all the day long of this troubled life,
until the shadows lengthen and the evening comes and the busy world is hushed,
the fever of life is over and our work is done.
Then, Lord,
in your mercy,
grant us a safe lodging,
and a holy rest,
and peace at the last,
through Jesus Christ our Lord.

I didn't write this for this purpose, friend, but I did write it today, and I think it will serve ...

In the Growing Darkness

In the growing darkness, the wrinkles fade and fall,
My straining vision gets to rest, my energy is small,
In the growing darkness, my age is what I think,
I thirst for youthful fountains and the darkness gives me drink.

In the growing darkness, details recalled are fine,
I savor precious moments like the sips of lusty wine,
In the growing darkness, companions grow more dear,
I do not fear the darkness when a soul like you is near.

NicknamedBob . . . . . . . . . . September 7, 2008

May you be comforted, and your hearts be at peace.

Prayers for your family.
Please no matter what keep taking to him and telling you love him and cherish him even if he appears he is not responding.
May the Lord lift and comfort your family.
