Sidebar to the article:
The end is near?
Looking back at some 20th-century predictions:

1914: Jehovah's Witnesses say this is the doomsday year, followed by a series of later dates. In the 1990s, Jehovah's Witnesses quietly abandon a prediction that people alive in 1914 would live to see the Second Coming of Christ.

1919: Meteorologist Albert Porta predicts six planets will come together on Dec. 19, creating a cataclysmic event that would explode the Earth.

1936: Famed psychic Edgar Cayce picks this year for a disaster that will end the world as we know it.

1988: Hal Lindsey, in his best-selling book, “The Late Great Planet Earth,” predicts the Rapture will happen during this year. Former NASA engineer Edgar C. Whisenant pins it down to between Sept. 11 and Sept. 13. Unbowed, Lindsey still predicts these are the end times. Whisenant died in 2001.

1994: Radio evangelist Harold Camping tells listeners the end will come that September.

“All I'm saying is some of the things that the word of God prophesied would take place as we near this time are happening in ways you cannot contradict.”

This very same thing has been said by hundreds of thousands of people like this pastor, every year, for the past two thousand years. Every one was just as sure and could prove 'without doubt' all the signs pointed to their time.

Yup. Interestingly, as a kid, I was taught what Jeremiah is teaching and could never understand who in this day and age would behead people? (those who live during the tribulation and are beheaded are resurrected first). I always imagined the french guillotine. Not anymore. And the people I see doing it, invaded Israel when God avenged the innocent children sacrificed to a false god. Interesting, indeed.

What other verses have you also torn out of the New Testament?

Where did Christ say anything about catching anybody in the air? Christ is coming here with a double edged sword not hot air balloons for to fly anybody anywhere. Now what exactly does that word 'air' literally mean when Paul used it and what is the subject of the whole not just one isolated scripture taken to mean what it does not mean.....

Looking back at some 20th-century predictions:

Thanks for your list, but as you can imagine, you missed a bunch. Jehovah's Witnesses (Watchtower Society) made several predictions in the 1960s and 1970s, David Koresh (who tried to bring it about), Mr. Applegate (and his moonmen), plus Cecil B. DeMills cast of thousands.

People have been predicting the end times since Christ died.

Just for argument’s sake, read 1 Thessalonians, chapter 4. The phrase “shall be caught up” is from the Greek, harpagésómetha, translated to Latin as rapere, where we get the word Rapture.

No, I don’t buy into the comic book version, but the term and concept is taken from the Bible.

Thanks for the information. As you know, many words from other languages make it to the English language. The context of 1 Thessalonians is inconsistent with the argument made by Miller in the 1800s and Rev. Jeremiah.

Try reading 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17

16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:

17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

18 Wherefore comfort one another with these words.

Problem is that the $300B will not go that far. In the Bible it says, "The first shall be last and the last shall be first." You will run the risk of not getting any money because you will be first in line. (How's that for pulling a Bible verse out of context for my own vain use?)

Yup we have the Lord descending..... at a "trump" the last one as there are seven. Now the 'dead' will rise first as that is what happens when flesh dies the 'soul' returns to the Maker that sent it.

Now this next verse demonstrates the action described by Paul in ICorinthians 15:52 In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the *LAST* trump (seventh): for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.

Now Paul has already said in verse 51 Behold I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall *ALL* be changed.

This 'catching' up is the referencing when there is no longer flesh but of that spiritual body also called the soul. Now as Christ demonstrated for us even this day as he went through that wall, that spiritual body is NOT held by the same weight as flesh. There is nothing in Thessalonians or anywhere else that instructs that these flesh bodies are going anywhere to meet Christ. His return closes the end of this 'age' as Paul also describes in the majority of his writings. Even Peter says there are three different heaven/earth ages.

http://bibletools.org/index.cfm/fuseaction/Library.sr/CT/PW/k/428/Caught-Up-in-Rapture.htm

I worry that people who believe in “the rapture” will fall victims to the “signs and wonders” put forth by the antichrist.

He also said “he who endures to the end shall be saved.”

I will see Christ when he returns the -only- second time...not in some “secret” second coming that precedes the real second coming.

What if *this* is the “great delusion” that God said he would send to His people, in the end times?

*If* there is a “rapture”, fine.
I’ll be gone.
If it’s a trick of the false messiah, I won’t be buying it no matter how “miraculous” it may seem.

If I see “Jesus”, pinch myself and it still hurts, He hasn’t come back yet because we will all -instantly- be -transformed-, i.e...unable to suffer, get sick, die or feel pain.

*Most* churches teach the rapture theory.
This is why I do not got to church.

Flame away.

I was struck listening to some Christians Sunday saying things like . . .

Next year we will . . .

When Scripture is clear that we must say

“If the Lord wills, we . . . . “

or

“I plan to . . . God willing . . . “

Not many of us have an absolute guarantee about living through the night or tomorrow or next week in this time/space dimension.

I congratulate you on getting closer to God. No time like the present for that.

May He reward you richly for every effort to draw closer to Him.

I think the deception has to do with the counterfeit stuff from Satan in our era . . . which could include some semblance of a counterfeit ‘Rapture’ courtesy of the

fallen angels, nephilium, watchers, ‘ET’s’

etc. as some New Agers pontificate about . . . . as well as

their capacity to hoax ‘historic’ holographic videos purporting to disprove much of the Biblical history in their efforts to convince the world that ET’s created man as well as EVERY religious leader in our history for social engineering purposes.

The “Rapture” is merely a term describing a very Biblical future event or events. . . . just as Trinity is a word describing very Biblical truth.

Of course we must be alert and test the spirits in this era as like no other time in history.

Doesn’t mean we throw out Scriptures with the bath water.

Doesn’t mean we extrapolate sky-scrapers of assumptions built on toot-picks of ‘evidence.’

THOSE FLYING SAUCERS
(Cy Coben-Charlie Green)

You’d better pray to the Lord when you see those flying saucers,
It may be the coming of the Judgment Day.
It’s a sign, there’s no doubt, of the trouble that’s about,
So I say, my friends, you’d better start to pray.

They’re a terrifying sight as they fly on day and night.
It’s a warning that we’d better mend our ways.
You’d better pray to the Lord when you see those flying saucers,
It may be the coming of the Judgment Day.

Many people think the saucers might be someone’s foolish dream,
Or maybe they were sent down here from Mars.
If you’ll just stop and think, you’d realize just what it means,
They’re more than atom bombs or falling stars.

And though the war may be through, there’s unrest and trouble brewin,’
And those flying saucers may be just a sign
That if peace doesn’t come it will be the end of some,
So repent today, you’re running out of time.

When you see a saucer fly like a comet through the sky,
You should realize the price you’ll have to pay.
You’d better pray to the Lord when you see those flying saucers,
It may be the coming of the Judgment Day.

No assumptions have been given. I quoted you what Paul said and Paul even went the extra effort in IIThessalonians 1 to reiterate what he said in IThessalonians regarding our gathering together unto Him.

Paul repeats what was Christ's first warning regarding His return in Matthew 24, Mark 13 and Luke 21 ... Let no man deceive you by any means: for *that day shall not come,* except there come a falling away first. Does NOT say flying out first it says falling away first, welll who are these that will fall and who are they falling to??... Paul continues and that man of sin (the first sinner) be revealed, the son of perdition, verse 4 identifies who this son of perdition is by virtually quoting Ezekiel 28 as that one who opposeth and exalted himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped: so that he as God sitteth in the Temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.

You have just been told who the beast or the instead of Jesus is, none other than the devil the first sinner.

So, now the topic has changed to the fact that the Anti-Christ is satan incarnate?

You asked — “What happens to babies born after the rapture?”

They live during the Millennium, the 1,000 year reign of Christ on this earth — the Kingdom of God.

And..., the ones who accept Christ as their Savior during the Tribulation (likewise, “after” the Rapture) also live during the Millennium.

I hope that solves the puzzle for you...

You might find it very interesting to read Randy Alcorn’s book on “Heaven”. It’s extremely enlightening. It even opens the eyes of Christians (if you are one) and presents a totally different picture of Heaven to those who aren’t Christians.

YOu said — “Christ said “I have foretold you all things”, after years and years of searching through scripture I still yet cannot find Him saying ONE word RAPTURE or anything about the mythical ideology of RAPTURE.”

Well, I wouldn’t depend on the fact that the English word — rapture — is not found in the Bible. I say that, because the word “Trinity” is not found in the Bible, either — but it is fully described. The word “Trinity” simply happens to be a short-hand method for saying in one word what would take paragraphs and pages to say otherwise (in “explanation” and “proof”).

Likewise, the word “rapture” is a short-hand method for saying in one word what would take paragraphs and pages to say otherwise (in “explanation” and “proof”).

And, by the way, one cannot be a Christian if they don’t believe in the “Trinity” — since that’s a core and fundamental belief of Christianity.

As a side note, our English translation of the Bible (the one you and I read) has only been around for about 400 years — while the Latin version of the Bible has been around for over a thousand (and more) years. It’s the Latin version that contains the word “rapture” (in the Bible). We’ve just taken the Latin word and carried it over into English and cleaned up the pronunciation a bit for our English ears.

So, actually the word “rapture” — is — in the Bible. You just have to be reading the Latin Bible and not the English Bible.

AND, one more thing, before you demand it be in the “English” Bible. The Bible was not originally written in English...

You said — “My bible says nothing of the rapture.”

Well, you must be reading the wrong Bible, then — because mine does...

1 Thessalonians 4:13-18

13 But I do not want you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning those who have fallen asleep, lest you sorrow as others who have no hope.

14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who sleep in Jesus.

15 For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will by no means precede those who are asleep.

16 For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first.

17 Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord.

18 Therefore comfort one another with these words.

Also, another aspect of the Rapture is filled in by the Apostle Paul here....

1 Corinthians 15:51-55

51 Behold, I tell you a mystery: We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed—

52 in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.

53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.

54 So when this corruptible has put on incorruption, and this mortal has put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written: “Death is swallowed up in victory.”

55 ”O Death, where is your sting? O Hades, where is your victory?”

from the emergence of Israel as the dominant country-of-residence for Jews

Note the subtle shift in emphasis. I suppose this starts the "this generation" clock over again.

As originally reported by Christians Behaving Badly:
In 1990, David Jeremiah and co-author C C Carlson claimed to have written Escape The Coming Night — a book about the rapture. It was soon discovered that significant portions of the book were plagiarized from best selling author Hal Lindsey’s (with co-author C C Carlson) 1973 work There’s A New World Coming. After realizing there were at least 47 pages of plagiarized material in the Jeremiah book, his publisher Word Books destroyed the inventory and, in a written statement, actually admitted the theft in late 1998. ( The Mother of Modern Prophecy )
I wonder where he got his latest idea from.
