True enough. Just playing devil’s advocate anyway — I’m pro-life, and pro-defense.

On marriage:
In the contemporary context, the central dispute is whether marriage is fundamentally an institution that is meant for the mutual support of the parties, or whether it is fundamentally an institution designed for the procreation and education of children.
On the mortgage mess:
Dante might say that we have two distinct set of challenges in the mortgage crisis and the oil crisis. On the one hand, we have people tempted to be spendthrifts, to buy a bigger house, to buy a bigger car, than they can afford. On the other hand, we have people tempted to be misers--or money lenders and oil tycoons willing to do anything to put more money in their accounts. In a capitalist society such as our own, these weaknesses feed off each other.
Pas denemi à la gauche?
On the Eucharist:
Moreover, if we really believe that the Eucharist is the real presence of Christ, we cannot rule out the possibility that Christ himself was reaching out to grieving people like Sally Quinn at Tim Russerts funeral mass, and that she responded to his invitation.
"Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!
Woe unto them that are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight!"
Isiah 5:20-21

Wow! “We’d all be playing hockey” if Palin were VP or POTUS???? What kind of weirdo would actually say that, especially being Catholic?? Are people really that shallow? Guess so...or Obama wouldn’t be on the ticket.
Does being qualified for being POTUS mean that you have to have had 35 years in Washington doing almost nothing productive like Joe Biden? Even Dems in Congress who slap him the high-5 know that he would be a disaster as President, and would only have self-interest in mind throughout his entire time in office.
I sure hope all the Freepers on here represent a larger majority who will actually show up to vote on the 4th. I hope we walk the walk. Talking the talk is easy.
As a Notre Dame grad it pains me to say that my school pays more attention to The Academy than the Gospels, which is also true for most historically Catholic schools.
5% of France goes to church. We are headed there fast.
True, but making abortion a "constitutional right" [sic] probably convinced a lot of people that there was nothing wrong with it, or at least let them pretend that. And in a celebrity culture like ours, many people will be swayed by public figures: Obama, who is for infanticide of babies who actually survive an abortion; Sarah Palin, with choices for life in two "hard cases"!
War is not.
The last time I checked we Catholics get our teaching authority on matters of faith and morals from the Bishops and the Pope and not from the law department of Notre Dame.I am glad to see that ALL the U.S. Bishops who have spoken out on abortion have sided with McCain and Palin.Notre Dame can’t even field a good football team anymore.
Of course not.
Because the civil rights of those targeted persons demand justice.
And the same holds true today.
An example of someone calling evil good and vv.
If you think that's bad, there's worse. Another freeper had lunch with 3 women from the parish. The 3 women said they were voting for Obama because he's black and the US is ready for a black president. No mention of issues ... his skin color qualifies him for leader of the most powerful nation on earth. By that thinking, it is only a matter of time before folks vote in someone who is gay - strictly because the country "is ready" for a gay president.
Some of us still remember the WWII generation. Immortalize them in your memory banks because that is when the US peaked. It's been a steady slip down the hill ever since.
True, but making abortion a "constitutional right" [sic] probably convinced a lot of people that there was nothing wrong with it,
Yes - But it would be good if the Bishops had tried to convince mothers every day since the 'constitution right' instead of every 4 years during political elections passing the buck to voters.
Thanks for the link. I posted that article to the forum last week. How are you?
That's all I needed to read.......rolling my eyes!
‘I’d like to see M. Cathleen trying to make that argument to St. Peter - something tells me she’ll be headed in the other direction!’
She’ll be making those argument for all eternity while facing the screams of those who are aborted due to her complicity; and she’ll hate God for all eternity for not succumbing to her reasoning. It’ll be part of her self-made hell.
God always has the last word.
Thank you for posting those statements. Judging from her babble, one gets the immediate impression that she is clueless about her faith. It’s no wonder our Lord said we must approach as children. This is an overeducated woman.
And she teaches at Notre Dame. “Our Lady”. Such is the poisonous atmosphere left behind by Rev. Theodore M. Hesburgh.
May God have mercy on his soul and hers.
Not overeducated -- badly educated!
Msgr. Patrick Bishop, pastor of Transfiguration Church, Marietta, Ga. of the Catholic Diocese of Atlanta where Archbishop Wilton Gregory is located on Saturday, October 18, 2008 made the declaration from the Altar that Obama and Sarah Palan are both not Pro Life.
Msgr. Patrick Bishop said that Obama is Pro Abortion and Sarah Palan is for Capital Punishment. Hence, neither are Pro Life!!!!!!!
Msgr. Patrick Bishop gave his tacit approval to vote for Obama.
Msgr. Patrick Bishop is using ecleciastical double talk to arrive at this conclusion!!!
This dingbat is not a Catholic, period. By her actions she has removed herself from the Church. She can call herself anything she wants, but it doesn’t make it so. And as for her illogical tortism — those who support someone (Obama) whom condones abortion, which is “intrinsically evil”, they are intrinsically evil themselves and have bartered their souls. You can’t have it both ways, sister!
Et tu, Notre Dame? I would have suspected this type of perverse theology only from Jesuit institutions.
