FOX’S “FAMILY GUY” SLANDERS GAY PRIESTS
Catholic League ^ | 10/21/2008 | staff

Posted on 10/21/2008 11:18:11 AM PDT by kellynla

In the October 19 episode of Fox’s “Family Guy,” characters Brian (the family dog) and Stewie (the family child) travel in a time machine to rescue Mort Goldman (a Jewish family-friend) from the Nazi invasion of Poland. After Brian and Stewie disguise Mort as a priest to get him out of the country, a Nazi officer asks Mort, “Are you sure you’re a real priest?” Stewie replies, “Yeah, yeah, I can vouch for him, he’s real. He’s molested me many, many times.”

Catholic League president Bill Donohue responded as follows:

“To its credit, the Fox News Channel has criticized its broadcast sister station, Fox, for what happened on last Sunday’s episode. But the criticism only dealt with the implication that Nazis would have supported the McCain-Palin ticket. However, there is also the matter of slandering all gay priests. While it is true that most of the molesters in the Catholic clergy have been gay, most gay priests are not molesters.

“A disturbing pattern has emerged on ‘Family Guy.’ On at least three occasions, it has mocked the Eucharist, and now it is targeting gay priests. The brains behind these assaults is Seth MacFarlane. He is not only the show’s creator, he is a big Barack Obama supporter. This may explain his animus against McCain-Palin, but it is not clear why an Obama fan would find it necessary to beat up on gay priests. After all, Obama’s running mate, Joe Biden, just yesterday said he is against Proposition 8, the California resolution that would limit marriage to a man and a woman. Thus did he lay down stakes with the radical gay community.

“Whatever the motive, the juvenile scripts that MacFarlane is associated with could benefit from some fresh material. Make that material that doesn’t bash Catholicism, as well.”

Family Guy, which was a mixed bag at best, has gone downhill after coming back from cancellation. It's simply not funny anymore, it's just dumb frat guy humor written by and for dumb frat guys.

It’s not targeting gay priests. It’s making the assumption that any priest is gay.

“apologize for the scoundrels who protected the evil from justice for forty years?”

I suggest you do a little homework before you make unsubstantiated accusations....for starters, the Church was told by psychologists & psychiatrists that these religious who committed sexual acts against children could be rehabilitated...and after years of treatment those same psychologists & psychiatrists told the Church that those same religious could not be rehabilitated.

“My Faith is Catholicism?”

Do a little research before you post and embarrass your fellow Catholics with your ignorance of the subject matter and mischaracterize the whole issue with what happened after the priests who committed these acts were exposed and unsuccessfully "treated."

So if your kid gets molested, and a psychologist says the criminal could be rehabilitated, would that stop you from calling the cops on the creep? Would that stop you from pressing charges?

Please if my posts were really inane, you would be able to put out a logical argument why the Hierarchy’s actions were moral. But you continue to be an apologists for the molesters and the ecclesiastical enablers.

But you aren’t being a good Catholic and your not doing the Church any favors by excusing their bad behavior by turning a morality into a spectator sports. “It’s OK when my team does it.”

In fairness - lets admit the following statement is true.

“the Church was told by psychologists & psychiatrists that these religious who committed sexual acts against children could be rehabilitated...and after years of treatment those same psychologists & psychiatrists told the Church that those same religious could not be rehabilitated”.

Only a relatively small percentage of priests were homosexuals, those who were did not act gay - just a little strange and effeminate and probably celibate. Most priests thought “gay” meant fun loving - no idea what was going on.

Today - 180 degree turn. A different world which most will not face.

and you “understand” wrong...ya know if you anti-Catholics would just do your homework, you wouldn't look so stupid criticizing the Catholic Church & Catholics on FR with your unsubstantiated “rumors”.

Actually, I was told first-hand by two employees of the Achdiocese in DC about their perconal experiences, and seen the personal file of one of them. One priest had a compulsive need to spank men and boys, and after enough complaints, he was merely moved to another location.

I am not anti-Catholic. Quite to the contrary, and I have anger at the people who are responsible for so much criticism of the Catholic church.

I am a Methodist btw

I have no problem admitting that statement is true, but that’s just not an excuse for the Hierarchy’s refusal to call the cops.

The Priests and the bishops thought they were better than the congregation.

It was shown to me by the person from which the file was directed. He copied everything in it, and what I saw was the copies.

it’s illegal to make copies of personnel files to show to your friends.......a sin in fact.

No its not. You can make a copy of your own personnel file and do whatever you want with it. It is yours, and I dont remember any commandment about personnel files.

Where does the Bible speak about personnel files? The first Epistle of Paul to the HR managers of Corinth?

Just to be clear here, I support the Catholic church and applaud the good it does every day around the world.

Where I and many other people have a problem is in the actions of a relatively few pervs and those in the Catholic church who enabled their bad behavior. It has literally cost the Catholic Church hundreds of billions of dollars in liability.

Your criticism should be directed at the few bad eggs in the church, not me for addressing those issues.

So, the person it was directed to was the SAME person who’s file was shown to you. He did not copy another person’s file to show to friends who had no business reading it? Your friend was a child abusing homosexual priest and he confessed to YOU and showed you HIS file? I just want to get this clear, becuase if the file involved someone else, why was he showing it around?

FOX’S “FAMILY GUY” SLANDERS GAY PRIESTS

Title is misleading. It is impossible to slander a gay priest. A better title would have been:

"FOX’S “FAMILY GUY” SLANDERS GAY PRIESTS"

Not all priests are homosexuals, but some are.

No, the person who showed me HIS OWN FILE was the victim of a grab-happy priest. He showed it to me to ask my opinion about what he should do, because a month after he filed a complaint with the managing priest, he was let go of his job of 22 years.

I do law but not employment law, and had a law school friend who is an HR specialist talk to him.

And your friend would approve of you chatting online about his personal issues? Good for him. But, as a lawyer, aren’t your consultations confidential?

I am his friend, not his lawyer; I have not revealed his identity; and you’re incredibly lame for trying to change the subject.

It took me quite a few posts to determine the source and why I should listen to you. Talk about changing the subject, what were you posting? It was a simple question. Lots of people claim to have first hand information slamming the church, would you let expert witnesses testify without knowing why they have any expertise in some area?

Many of us know priests who were accused; some were guilty some innnocent. I take this subject seriously, it is my church.
