On Wednesday, students, staff, and guests gathered at the Empire State Building, the home of The Kings College, for a spirited debate between prolific Slate columnist Christopher Hitchens and pastor/author Douglas Wilson, the founder of New Saint Andrews College. Moderated by World magazine editor Marvin Olasky, the two tangled over the question, is Christianity good for the world? After the debate, both Hitchens and Wilson stopped by our conference room for a post-debate interview.
They have a college in the Empire State Building?
The young guy interviewing Hitchens is painful to watch. Too much candy before the interview I think.
Go get him, Doug. I’ve known Doug for 25 years. Despite the reputation that Doug Wilson has gotten for harshness in speech (due to some of his writing in Credenda/Agenda and his book, The Serrated Edge), in person, he is one of the most gracious guys you would ever met.
I’ve seen a few of these debates on YouTube between Hitchens and others—Di Souza, Prager, Boteach, Olansky. The debates are always interesting. Interesting for me because I’m not religious but not an atheist either.
Beaversmom,
I hope you don’t mind if I ask something for your personal reflection, but: Do you know what will happen to you if you died today? (And upon what authority would your answer be based?)
I’ll send you a private reply on that.
Ping to watch the video later
