Prayer thread ^

This thread is incredible to me! I am a Christian, but Christians LOVE debate. What is going on here?

We cannot voice our opinion of Obama, because the person who started it says that's it's protected by religion? Since when has Obama cared about Christians? Wake up people, this is scary, check out this thread. I knew our voice would be surpressed, but I had no idea it would be on this website:

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-religion/2130508/posts

Everytime I post something, I get a reply in my inbox, to send replies to the one who started this thread. Again, this is this last place I thought my voice would be surpressed. Am I the only one upset by this travesty?

This has to do with the pray for Obama Thread.

What are your guidelines in respect to this thread?

Think of it like your church. You would not care to have people traipsing through the sanctuary loudly debating. In the fellowship hall perhaps, not the sanctuary.

Ah, now this is a debate thread!

The prayer threads are for prayer. They are not for debate. Your voice is not being silenced. You just posted this thread.

Since we are off of the other thread, if you were paying attention we are mostly praying for Obama to repent of his sins and turn to the Lord. It isn’t because we think he is such a grand guy. We don’t. The people praying are pretty much universally opposed to his presidency. But, Scripture says we should pray for all of our leaders and those in authority that we may live peaceful lives. The Apostle Paul wrote such when Nero was head of Rome, so I believe he didn’t just mean pray for those you like.

Obama’s views are diametrically opposed to Scripture. His support of the death culture, repeal of constitutional rights, the homosexual agenda are all anathema to God. If he does not repent, he will be judged for these views and more. So will America for putting him in office.

Jesus said to pray for our enemies. We are doing that. It isn’t an easy task and I’ve pretty much taken a lot of flack for posting the prayer thread each night. But, we aren’t hypocrites. Barack Obama needs to know the Lord if we have any hope of surviving these next 4 years.

You can debate me out here. Just not on the prayer thread. Think of it as going inside a church versus outside on the street. It is inappropriate in a prayer setting to start bickering over what is being prayed about. Outside, you’re free to express your opinion, and I mine.

Ultimately, we have the Lord to answer to & He never said His instructions would be easy.

Well, this is really sad. Very sad. Folks praying for Obama, the man who will be the downfall of our country, but on THIS WEBSITE, our voices are surpressed.
In my church, don’t know about yours, but freedom of expression is still allowed, and encouraged.
This is just the beginning, I guess.

The rules state all prayer threads are closed to debate. Start a thread somewhere else that isn’t a prayer thread (like this one), and we can discuss whether it is biblical or not to pray for Obama.

Incidentally, the Kos and others have taken notice of the threads & have been watching what Freepers are doing. You may decide praying for Obama is not your thing. But, we can at least act better than the Dems would in the same situation.

Following are the guidelines pertaining to the Religion Forum.

If you cannot or will not comply with these guidelines, stay away from the Religion Forum.

If you do not wish to see RF posts, do NOT use the "everything" option on the browse. Instead, browse by "News/Activism." When you log back in, the browse will reset to "everything" - so be sure to set it back to "News/Activism."

The guidelines:

I am the current Religion Moderator and have general responsibility for this Religion Forum on Free Republic. However, all moderators have authority on the RF as well and a few others may log in with my handle. So the person handling your abuse reports may or may not be me, but usually it will be.

Types of threads and guidelines pertaining to the Religion Forum:

Prayer threads are closed to debate of any kind.

Devotional threads are closed to debate of any kind.

Caucus threads are closed to any poster who is not a member of the caucus.

For instance, if it says “Catholic Caucus” and you are not Catholic, do not post to the thread. However, if the poster of the caucus invites you, I will not boot you from the thread.

The “caucus” article and posts must not compare beliefs or speak in behalf of a belief outside the caucus.

Ecumenic threads are closed to antagonism.

To antagonize is to incur or to provoke hostility in others.

Unlike the “caucus” threads, the article and reply posts of an “ecumenic” thread can discuss more than one belief, but antagonism is not tolerable.

More leeway is granted to what is acceptable in the text of the article than to the reply posts. For example, the term “gross error” in an article will not prevent an ecumenical discussion, but a poster should not use that term in his reply because it is antagonistic. As another example, the article might be a passage from the Bible which would be antagonistic to Jews. The passage should be considered historical fact and a legitimate subject for an ecumenic discussion. The reply posts however must not be antagonistic.

Contrasting of beliefs or even criticisms can be made without provoking hostilities. But when in doubt, only post what you are “for” and not what you are “against.” Or ask questions.

Ecumenical threads will be moderated on a “where there’s smoke, there’s fire” basis. When hostility has broken out on an “ecumenic” thread, I’ll be looking for the source.

Therefore “anti” posters must not try to finesse the guidelines by asking loaded questions, using inflammatory taglines, gratuitous quote mining or trying to slip in an “anti” or “ex” article under the color of the “ecumenic” tag.

Posters who try to tear down other’s beliefs or use subterfuge to accomplish the same goal are the disrupters on ecumenic threads and will be booted from the thread and/or suspended.

Open threads are a town square. Antagonism though not encouraged, should be expected

Posters may argue for or against beliefs of any kind. They may tear down other’s beliefs. They may ridicule.

On all threads, but particularly “open” threads, posters must never “make it personal.” Reading minds and attributing motives are forms of “making it personal.” Making a thread “about” another Freeper is “making it personal.”

When in doubt, review your use of the pronoun “you” before hitting “enter.”

Like the Smoky Backroom, the conversation may be offensive to some.

Thin-skinned posters will be booted from “open” threads because in the town square, they are the disrupters.

If you do not specify the type of thread, it will be considered “open.”

Certain sources have been determined to monger hatred and are forbidden. Sources that link to those sources are also forbidden. These include Jack Chick, Jesus-is-Lord.com, Vdare, KKK, Aryan Nations, National Alliance, Christian Identity, the false Jesuit Oath, the false Oath of the Knights of Columbus, anti-Semitic sources.

My job:

I am not the protector of your beliefs.

I am not the arbiter of truth, for that posters must turn to God or whoever they consider to be the final authority.

I am not the arbiter of logical proofs, for that the posters must turn to the mathematicians, logicians and philosophers.

I am not the arbiter of fact, for that the posters must turn to the scientists, physical evidence, testimonies and historians.

I am not the arbiter of the meaning of words, and I'm not sure there exists such a final authority so the burden rests with the posters to explain what they mean.

But when it comes to this Religion Forum, I lay out the guidelines and resolve disputes within those guidelines. But I do not “settle” matters of dogma, doctrine, tradition or meanings of words.

If a guideline, rule, policy or settlement exists which affects this Religion Forum, I will do all I can to see it enforced.

I diligently try to read all of your posts, but am not here 24/7 and cannot remember all of the slights and parties involved on every single sidebar much less when posters carry grudges between threads. So if you are wondering why I singled one guy out and not the other involved in a dispute, often it is because I either did not see a previous post or did not remember it as part of the sidebar.

If the other guy in the dispute was given a warning, consider yourself warned as well.

Remember this:

The demeanor of the poster says more about his own confession than the post says about yours. When he is being rude or mean it drives people away from his confession and towards yours. That is of course if you can resist the urge to meet fire with fire, in which case neither confession is appealing to the lurkers. The poster who “turns the other cheek” wins every single time.

If the other guy is throwing spitwads at you on an “open” thread it probably means he has run out of ammunition. Take it as a backhanded compliment. You won, walk away.

Spiritual maturity is not a prerequisite for posting on the Religion Forum. If the other guy is being childish, be patient with him.

That is a daily prayer thread. Tomorrow there will be a new one that says “Pray for our Nation & President-Elect Obama - Day 9”. This will continue until a new President is elected in 2012.

This was/is a continuation of the daily “Pray for our Nation & President Bush - Day 1 to 2780”

They are not up for debate threads.

If you don’t like it, don’t click it.

You may not like the words “President Obama”, but unless a strange turn of fate or a miracle happens he is our President Elect. We are not moonbats.

We pray for our Nation and it’s leaders, and do so daily.

I guess I had a fantasy version of this website, where one could express their opinion. Religion is part of that, as it is a huge part of my lifesytle. Freedom of speech doesn’t end when you walk into a church.
Again, this situation is very sad. Voices surpressed, again, I thought it would take a couple more years for that to happen.

Makes sense to me, what you’re saying, about no debate in the religion forum.

Maybe it makes sense to pray for Nero, after all, St. Paul wrote we should do that...

I’m struggling with deep anger, though, that we sold our nation’s soul for a mess of pottage.

Don’t quite know what to do about that...

if someone walked into your church on a sunday morning and tried to begin a spirited debate, my guess is that you would alert the local authorities. debate has it's place, except in that one small corner of this website.

why can't you deal with it and respect the wishes of others? if you cannot, you are free to leave. it's a private site supported by private donations. the owner's wishes stand.

i am not religious. never, ever go to church. i never have occasion to go to the religious threads, but i respect the prayer threads. they are very important to our mission as a whole.

The wrath of God will be upon us, guaranteed. The pray for peace thing is over. It is time to stand up against evil. I will never pray for him, or agree with anyone who prays for him. His dye is cast. He is who he is, and none of it is good. I am embarrassed of this country now, and anyone who supports him in any way. I have not seen one sign that this being has good intentions for anyone except himself.

A "NO DEBATE ALLOWED" THREAD ON THIS WEBSITE??

You really don't know much about this website, do you?

Prayer threads are not for debate. When they are having prayer in your church, do you stand up and complain that the pastor's sermon has theological flaws? Do you complain that the people that the pastor is praying for do not deserve prayer?

If you want to start your own "No Debate" thread, just check out the rules on the Religion Moderator's forum page.

There are plenty of religion threads where you can cut your theological teeth. Prayer threads are not among them.

Pray for this nation’s repentance.

There have been times in the past where the nation has gotten in deep trouble; where people cared more about the things of the world than their country or their God, where the church itself threatened to become a corpse.

Do you know that there were times in the 16-1700s where Christians were literally in hiding at some of the Ivy league colleges once founded on religious principles? Our country has been through some horrible things. But, when we have gotten as far as we could get and evil has abounded, God has heard the prayers of a remnant and turned the whole thing around.

He has also used the prayers of His people to prepare them for worse things to come. In 1857, Jeremiah Lamphier started a humble little prayer meeting in NYC that ended up turning into a huge revival throughout the land. This was no doubt in prep for the Civil war.

Things may get way worse before they get better. So, it is incumbent upon us to be praying for our nation and for repentance for our future probable Commander in Chief (which makes me cringe just typing those words knowing how he feels about the Military). If God doesn’t take control of this ship, we will go down.
