The Bay Area has a large and vibrant gay Catholic community, Gay Catholics. Like square circles.

Many of these Catholics were taught from childhood that marriage is between one man and one woman. Jesus Himself stated that from the beginning of their creation God made them “male and female”.
It is easy to predict how Catholics would vote.

It is easy to predict how Catholics would vote.Perhaps, but the article said....Exit polls showed that an estimated 64 percent of Catholic voters favored the measure.
Only 64%??? Seems more than a few Catholics forgot what they were taught....

It’s my understanding that in the Catholic Church there is an allowance for those who are homosexual but do not act upon their homosexual instincts. That is very different from accepting homosexual behaviour. Something like that.

That’s not necessarily true. People hid all sorts of things “in the closet”.

I absolutely couldn't agree with you more.
Government has absolutely NO legitimate interest in this area.
None.

Kinda wonder why the evangelical movement was relatively silent on the issue?" Are you unaware that the org that put it on the ballot is distinctly evangelical/fundamentalist?

I think a lot of churches are on the fringe because they don’t want to get involved in a ‘civil rights’ issue—hopefully the news will spread that this is just a cover story for the attack on FREEDOM OF RELIGION that is already underway!!
My prayer is that it isn’t too late for all the churches to connect and try to fight this. I don’t want a world where I have to tell my children that ‘racist, intolerant churches were put out of business by that great President Obama’ when they’re older!! :-O

Which is the best parish in the SF diocese?
DH must go to Mass in the City before work sometimes. He used to love St Peter and Paul but not so much since Fr Malloy retired.

"
not sure what the people living in California go though,..."
CA SC judges can get recalled in a special election. Bring it on! That will be great fun. Blacks and South Americans join forces against white liberal wimps. I'm hanging out with the Blacks and SA's for food, drink, and good times.
Judges don't have the authority to order a change in the behavior of a whole civilisation.

Frankly, I wish I knew which parish was best. The City really doesn't have a parish that is any sort of bastion of traditionalism. SS Peter & Paul probably was the closest thing that we had to one when Father Malloy, God bless him, was there. Yes, he was truly one of the last courageous priests in the archdiocese.

Not too many southern Baptists in coastal California. There are lots of Assembly of God churches serving the Hispanic and Asian communities, and I know that the Hispanics voted overwhelmingly in favor of Prop 8 (which is why Los Angeles and Imperial Counties voted in favor of the amendment). Since A of G churches are independent, there was probably lots of preaching against it.
Pentecostals don't have a Rome or Salt Lake City (and are all the better for it, IMHO).

Sorry to hear that. Our preference is for St Margaret Mary in Oakland for TLM but his schedule doesn't work for that right now.
Anything in Marin? Yeah, I know, but I have to try. How bad is Notre Dame de Victoires this days?

yeah I know there aren’t a lot of Southern Baptist in California...I’m using them as illustrative of fundamentalist/evangelical churches. And as you suggest many, many of these churches are sovereign or independent.
Still the battle isn’t over. These independent churches need to find an ecumenical way to fight the God-less left who are planning to put this back on the ballot in 2010 or ‘11.
I’ll say it again. Unless the evangelical/fundamentalist churches outside of California help raise money for this cultural war, then the battle will be much tougher.
pillut48 reports “I repeatedly received information etc. from various evangical groups supporting Prop 8 here in Texas” That’s the type of effort that needs to happen on a grander scale! Blessings to all who help.

Check ours out. Lots of responsibility. The politicians on the left kinda deny it, though.

I was raised in the RCC, and can't say I was impressed by what I saw in either the Diocese of Rockville Centre or the Diocese of Palm Beach. There are some great Fathers and Brothers in the various orders (even the Jesuits), but the Eurocrats really need to reform the ossified structure. In this case, it is not so much theological as it is organizational.
I could talk your ear off about the subject but I am very tired. I am happy that things are working out at your Diocese, considering the horror stories I keep hearing from relatives and other Freepers.
