In practice, there are very few deathbed conversions. When the time comes, most people who know they need to convert are preoccupied, and they may forget their prior resolutions, or else be unconscious or unable to communicate or not have enough time or composure.
Postponing one's conversion is not generally a good idea.

There are few atheists on deathbeds. I've always wondered if the deathbed conversions are people who finally see the light, or they're just trying to cover the bases, just in case.
