Traditionalist SSPX bishop may be charged with holocaust denial in Germany

Problem for the Pope Cathcon translation of an article in this week's Der Spiegel. Not (yet) on line. A bishop of the Society of Pope St Pius X denies the holocaust. Anti-semitic tendencies lead to tension between German Catholics and the Central Council for Jews in Germany.

The history of the Catholic Church is also the history of separations from Her, of heresy and of error. When the religious deviationists win many supporters, they can be considered, like the Protestants, a church and when rather they remain among themselves, they can be considered as a sect.

Presently, one of the most important splits in the Catholic religious universe is an association of priests, which takes its name from an especially pious Pope, named “The Society of Saint Pius X”. The group founded in 1970 by the conservative and later excommunicated Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre celebrates the Mass in Latin to this day, holds confession in high honour and fights in general things which conform to “an anti-Christian consumer and fun-fuelled society”.

What a jerk! And if he did this to forestall the lifting of the excommunications of the SSPX bishops by the Pope, that’s just despicable.

I have had more than my share of run-ins with Williamson. He was a jerk then; he is still a jerk. All he is interested in is the greater honor and glory of Williamson.

I don't like those laws becaues they allow scum to claim the mantle of martyrdom.
I do find it sad the Williamson will become a Catholic Bishop.

He is a Bishop, and has been since the ordination which caused him to incur excommunication, and would remain a Bishop whether excommunicated or not. While excommunication has certain effects, it does not cause one to cease to be Catholic, so if one wanted to, one could call him a Catholic Bishop at any time since 1988. There is no “becoming” involved.

Whether he will become a fully functioning Catholic Bishop remains to be seen. The man is still suspended. Indeed, it is not even clear that he will remain a fully functioning Bishop within the context of the SSPX—
