Posted on 03/19/2009 4:32:03 PM PDT by GiovannaNicoletta
As a Christian watching and waiting for the Lord Jesus to fulfill His promise of returning to Earth to set up His kingdom of peace, love and righteousness, I keep an eye on world events to discern the biblical signs that foretell of that blessed Second Coming. And so, day after day after day I peruse an endless list of news stories in search of those signs. They are very easy to find, but in the search I also discover that the world is filled with horror. That horror can stamp out any glimmer of hope.
Like standing stalwart against the crashing surf, all these constant updates on how bad the world is can eventually erode a person down. Each morning's wakeup has become tinged with a subtle dread of knowing that I'll have to hear about some injustice, atrocity or murder. My corporate prayer times are filled with reports of moral collapse and further acts that persecute believers in Christ and take the life of the innocent. My personal prayer times seem to more and more address the consequences of man's inhumanity to man. And worse, I gaze at my children and feel a deep sadness that they will not experience the earthly opportunities and freedoms that the American dream had once provided.
On top of all the terrible news of today, as a student of Bible prophecy I'm also laden with the knowledge of the future horrors of tomorrow. The human institutions of justice created to uphold moral law that so many have bled to establish have been corrupted and will disintegrate into a totalitarian regime ruled by a megalomaniac world leader. Within a few short years, three quarters of the world's population are going to be annihilated by nuclear war, raging famine, deadly pestilence and mass death. Freedom of religion will be stamped out. Those who call Christ "Savior" will be hunted like deer and exterminated. The world will visibly be in the grip of the cruel and merciless Prince of this Age Satan.
And how do I cope with all this badness in the world and the knowledge to come? Initially, my lunch breaks have shifted from Channel 8 news to pre-recordings of American Idol, and from late night surfing of the news sites to Netflix. The wars I can control are played out in Command & Conquer games. But, these escapisms are only fleeting respites.
Why Jesus is Waiting
Honest coping coping that heals the soul finally arrives when one truly understands why Jesus is waiting to return, allowing the evil in the world to rage on in the meantime. The key to that understanding lies in 2 Peter 3:9 which reads, "The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance."
The verse teaches that Jesus waits because not everyone who will accept Him as Savior during the present Church Age has yet done so.
I could get mad, and probably in moments of weakness have, that I'm saved and am all set to go. Bring it on!
But, what if Jesus had come back the day before I had accepted Him as Savior? What if Jesus was to return before your spouse, your child, your parents or best friend have accepted Him, leaving them to experience the wrath He has promised to let loose in judgment upon the whole world? Those questions put my anxiousness for His return into true perspective.
That Jesus hasn't returned yet is amazingly a mercy. The world is in a sorry state of affairs because mankind's free will and Satan's moment of ruling have made it so. But, to have the opportunity to be rescued from our sin and be granted eternal life by the true King of the Universe, the King who one day WILL fulfill His promises of destroying all evil and establishing His perfect kingdom... well, that life-saving chance is far too important when compared to our present limited time of suffering.
Jesus loves us, and I love Him for being so merciful. He is patient in returning because He wants everyone to have the opportunity to come to repentance and choose Jesus as Savior. Fortified with that knowledge, I think my day just got a whole lot brighter!
God will call each one of us before you know it. Be prepared.
Well written, well said.
God has a plan. He knows exactly how this is going to go down. Whether Satan rules in eight years, twelve years, another century...
For the Father’s own reasons. Whether Jesus returns tomorrow or 50,000 years from now, His expectations of us today, as long as it is “today,” do not change.
Jesus has returned. His name is Barack Obama.
Not to make light of your serious post...
But I suspect that He’s going to let us marinate in our own corruption for a bit...
The rapture caucus started here last night. You might want to post there.
I became a Christian in 1994. Bill Clinton had shaken my faith in everything I believed politically. I thought that there was no hope against this dark prince that was so beloved by the media. The press was giving us lying polls each day about the fall congressional races, saying the Dems were ahead or they were all toss ups. The media later put a moratorium on about telling us how many seats the GOP gained.
But before that, I was speaking to a friend who told me his minister father believed in a time that the Christians wouldn’t be here. I wasn’t a Christian, but was fascinated. Every day I asked my friend more and more questions and he had to call his father daily, which in turn brought them together.
Interest in prophecy waxes and wanes, but we know our faith and will continue to wait patiently for the “blessed hope.”
Agreed! We need to always be mindful of this. I am reminded of how Jesus told us not to worry about tomorrow because today has enough trouble and when he gave us the example to pray, Give us today our daily bread.
I take mortality very seriously, in a giddy redneck sorta way. It could be over for me tomorrow, making every plan or prediction beyond that irrelevant.
The way I see it,Israel was shocked by the Babylonian siege. I am afraid, we are not even close. I read Lamentations 4 and found some interesting parallels. There is much more work to be done. Uncomfortable, sacrificial work.
I look at it this way. If one of God’s days is a thousand of our years (2 Peter 3:8), then Jesus has only been gone for the weekend. Although, I am ready when He is!
People have been expecting Him to come since the mid-1800’s. If He had come any time in the ensuing 75 years, you wouldn’t exist to have to worry about it.
IOW, it seems to be all about you???
Why is Jesus waiting? We’re not ready yet.
The church has been waiting since Jesus left.
There was the rumor that Jesus would return before all of the apostles died. Then, in the middle ages, people of that time thought Jesus would return at the turn of the first century.
Does this mean that the Church should stop looking? No.
Actually, my understanding of scripture is that from the moment Jesus left till Jesus does return, is ALL the last day.
So, the wise Christian just decides that the Lord knows what he is doing, and patiently waits.
As to why Jesus is waiting, it is for one reason, so that more can be saved.
As to why Jesus is waiting, it is for one reason, so that more can be saved.
Precisely my point, that I made to the previous poster. If He had come earlier, that poster would not have existed.
So I ask, should Jesus "tarry", how many more millions, billions, trillions, will be added to the Kingdom? And is that not what we Christians want?
For Christians to whine about Him not coming now, and "why does He wait" is supremely self-centered. And further, it is a function of the current "Rapturist" point of view. How would you like to have been a Chinese Christian after 1949, or a Christian in Germany during the 3rd Reich?
We have it easy today. Moaning about Clinton and whatever excesses he may have brought, or Obama, comparing him to the "Anti-Christ", are nothing compared to the excesses of Nero, who was the ruler of the Roman Empire during Paul's life.
The LORD says to my Lord:
"Sit at My right hand
Until I make Your enemies a footstool for Your feet."
- Psalm 110,
the single most quoted psalm in the entire New Testament.
The mystery of iniquity is fulfilled on the great & notable day of the Lord. It’s a mystery that’s why we can’t fully understand it. I do know the bride of Christ must make herself ready, without spot or wrinkle. I do know that saints will wash their robes in the blood of the Lamb and make themselves ready. The purification of the Church & the mystery of iniquity are tied together.
I’m tired of endless speculation about pre-mid-post-no-already rapture theories. Many think they’re right, many aren’t sure. What difference does it make?(please don’t try to start an argument, I’m simply trying to make a point) Are we, God’s people, doing the work He gave us to do? Are we carrying out the great commission & washing our robes in the blood of the Lamb? Have we placed the well-keeping of our souls squarely in His hands & set out to do what He requires of us? We shall be strong & do exploits & we shall instruct many. Many of us will fall to make us white & to purify us but we shall be helped with a little help.
The end game is the end game of the ages. Think about that. We’re talking about all of creation groaning for the revealing of the Sons of God! satan does everything he can to thwart God’s plans and all he ever succeeds in doing is bringing more glory to God’s own kingdom. It is interesting that we’re seeing prophecy fulfilled before our very eyes. satan can only get power by force & that’s the moves we’re seeing take place. Sadly for us, humans are purified through the fires of suffering & anguish. How does one make whole a rotten apple? We’re rotten & somehow God uses these fires of affliction to make us whole.
Pray is my recommendation. Pray for your families, your nations, yourselves and for mankind. Pray. Prayer is how God works on the earth. Pray. Pray that you may be accounted worthy to escape all these things & stand before the Son of Man. Maranatha!
I really appreciate this point of view. When the rapture does happen, the minds of those who had the chance to accept Christ will become clouded, and they will never again have the chance to be saved. I have a SIL and her partner who are in that category. I think we need to greatly increase our prayers for them both as well as for other unsaved friends and acquaintances. God knows who the very last person is who needs to accept His salvation before He returns for all of us.
He is waiting because He loves us. I think He wants us to know His love and mercy before his justice. But isn’t that the way He seems to have always been as we read the Bible? I’ve learned to do what I can....but lately it’s more like “Pray and get out of the way”. In other words, don’t stress, feel anxious, don’t fear...trust, pray, get out of the way...To God the glory...
I don’t consider looking forward to Christ, the Creator of the Universe, return for the Church as moaning.
I just see it as not much different when I was a young Christian and really, really wanting to see Jesus. It is a part of the growth of Christians to go through a phase of looking, actively looking and understanding our times. This is how it should be. It is not selfish.
With time and if the apparent pace of prophecy slows, then the believer will mature into a more patient wait. If the pace of prophecy quickens, then these young Christians will be ready. I hope to be ready when the time approaches, even now. We are to pray and wait. I take seriously the fact Jesus warns us more than once that not all will be ready when he comes.
Are you ready?
“People have been expecting Him to come since the mid-1800s.”
Actually, the Apostle Paul believed Christ would return in his lifetime.
According to Scripture, that is not true.
Paul knew he was going to die. He just wasn’t sure when or how. But he knew it was coming. And he knew that other Christians would remain after he died.
Reference: Acts 20:17-37.
I would be interested in any reference you may have that Paul believed Christ would return in his lifetime.
It is true that believers have expected Christ to come. However, the current belief among Fundamentalists, propelled by Scofieldism and based on the hallucinations of a teenaged girl in the 1830’s has risen to almost cult proportion.
BTW, I am an Evangelical, raised in the Fundamentalist tradition.
I dont consider looking forward to Christ, the Creator of the Universe, return for the Church as moaning.
You attribute my comment completely out of context. I specifically said moaning about Clinton and Obama and their excesses are nothing compared to what Paul experienced under Nero.
Compared to Nero, and what Paul faced, there is a lot of "moaning" going on.
With all due respect, attention to comprehension might contribute significantly to your arguments.
Fundamentalists... based on hallucinations of a teenage girl in the 1800s? True fundamentalists base nothing on anything from the 1800s. Everything is based on the Scriptures only. People who base any faith or doctrine on something extra-Biblical, e.g., from the 1800s, would be involved in a cult.
“For Christians to whine about Him not coming now, and “why does He wait” is supremely self-centered. “
That was in your first post to me. What were you saying about comprehension?
Insults about what you personally have written don’t help your arguments.
First, you changed the subject of your argument.
Second, don’t you think it is self-centered when Christians whine about Him not coming, and “why does He wait?” Especially in the light of Paul and his death, Peter and his death, John and his long, long “incarceration”. Paul knew he was going to die, yet he did not reproach Christ for not “coming soon”, nor did he plead with Him to come.
In my lifetime, now 72 years, I have seen so many Christians crossing their fingers, hoping they would escape death by the “rapture”. Perhaps there is a different message in Christ’s Message.
Third, you should note that while prophesy is Scriptural, the interpretation of prophesy is not.
Rev 6:9-11 - And when he had opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of them that were slain for the word of God, and for the testimony which they held: And they cried with a loud voice, saying, How long, O Lord, holy and true, dost thou not judge and avenge our blood on them that dwell on the earth? And white robes were given unto every one of them; and it was said unto them, that they should rest yet for a little season, until their fellowservants also and their brethren, that should be killed as they [were], should be fulfilled.
If you buy into Darbyism, promoted by C.I Scofield and many other noted fundamentalists, including D. L. Moody, then you are cult-like.
I realize that to call Fundamentalism a cult is an unknown proposition to many Fundys. But, the only difference between Fundys and Seventh Day Adventists and Jehovah’s Witnesses is that you have converted more people.
Prior to 1830, there is no history of “the rapture”, which is the story line that propelled the Seventh Day Adventists, the JW and what became the Fundamentalists, starting with the Niagra Conferences of 1878 through 1920.
The best thing that can be said of that movement (Darbyism) is that it promoted a wave of evangelicalism and the attempt to bring people to Christ.
Actually "Rapture" itself goes back to 400 ad when it was translated by Jerome into latin.
Mat 24:30 And then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the heavens. And then all the tribes of the land will wail. And they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and much glory.
Mat 24:31 And He will send His angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they will gather His elect from the four winds, from the ends of the heavens to their ends.
Mat 24:4 & 34 And Jesus answered his disciples and said unto them - Truly I say to you, In no way will this generation pass away until all these things have occurred.
Jesus told the disciples that their generation would not pass away until he showed up. Thus, he did.
Luk 17:25 But first must he suffer many things and be rejected of this generation.
Mat 17:17 And Jesus answered and said, O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you?
Jesus stood in front of Peter and said, "I am coming back, in your lifetime." (Mat 24:34)
Kind of hard to miss. :)
Jesus is waiting for the fullness of the Gentiles. MY OPINION
For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fullness of the Gentiles be come in.
The fullness of the Gentiles is a referenced to the blindness of Israel. They’ll be blinded until the fullness of the Gentiles. When were they blinded? At the triumphal entry. Luke 19:41-44
They will be unblinded when the fullness of the Gentiles is come in. Come in to where? I believe this is speaking to those Gentiles that will obey His Word and follow Yeshua. I believe the harpazo of the bride of Christ is the fullness of the Gentiles. There is a point when the body of Christ (the bride) has reached it’s fullness. We know this because God shuts the door to the marriage and no more are added to the bride after the marriage. This is dealt with in Matthew 25:1-13, the kingdom parable of the 10 virgins.
The triumphal entry was 14,000 days before the destruction of Jerusalem and the temple in 70 AD. If these two times started at different times, can they be referring to the same thing? I don’t believe so. I believe the times of the Gentiles and the fullness of the Gentiles speak to two different things, worldly Gentiles and saved Gentiles respectively.
People like Jimmy Carter believe all the Jews need to be slaughtered first.
BLESSED BE THE NAME OF THE LORD.
TAG... You’re it!
Probably more than ever before in my life . . .
in recent weeks, months . . . have had recurring & more intense longings to
This world is not my home, as the old hymn says.
LORD, BY YOUR BLOOD AND SPIRIT, INSURE THAT I’M READY TO GO WITH YOU WHEREVER, WHENEVER!
MAYBE TODAY (Joel 2:31)
Music & Lyrics by Jo Nuvark

1Cr 15:52 In a moment, ..... the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.
MAYBE TODAY COULD BE TODAY...
ARE YOU PRAYIN FOR THAT GLORIOUS DAY OF THE LORD?
MAYBE TODAY COULD BE THE DAY...
WHEN JESUS CLAIMS HIS REWARD
Jesus will come are you ready for Him like a bride waits for her groom?
Declaring His love to all who will hear, enter in Hes prepared you a room.
Jesus will come. Hear the heavenly shout. At last our wedding day feast.
Hell come on the clouds to take us with Him, home to rest, to rest in His peace.
AMEN! AMEN! AMEN!
And I don't think we're going to have to wait much longer for the times of the Gentiles to be finished.
The entire world is in the process of turning against Israel and leaving her to the Muslim wolves and that will finish off everybody, including America under the sterling leadership of Barack Obama.
I don't think we have much longer to wait at all.
I'd really hate to be in Jimmy Carter's shoes on the day he has to stand before God. I can't think of anyone outside a Muslim country who has done so much to harm the nation of Israel and the Jews.
So much for all the "I'm a Southern Baptist" and "I'm a Christian" lies he fed people when he was running for president, huh?
Imagine how some Christians felt in the early 1940’s.
RaptureAlert.com? If Jesus is waiting, then where is the Alert?
Rapturealert.com exists for the purpose of letting people know of prophecies which point to the return of Christ and which are being fulfilled in our time.
The signs given in Scripture that are occurring in the present day point to the Tribulation. This means that the Rapture could happen at any moment. The alert is to let people know how close that event is.
At least we have the fulfillment of the prophecy of the rebirth of the nation of Israel to cling to - God's endtime prophetic clock really began ticking when that happened.
God never made any guarantees that Christians in the last days would not have to go through some severe suffering before the Tribulation began so, before it's all over, we may be able to really relate to Christians in the early 1940s.
For those of you who believe in Rapture...can I have your stuff when you’re gone?..:o)
