Exclusive: New ND Law Dean contributed to Obama/pro-abortion Catholic politicians (CINO Alert!)
American Papist ^ | April 1, 2009 | Matthew Peters

Posted on 04/01/2009 10:08:02 AM PDT by NYer

Notre Dame is really on a roll, isn't it? Sadly they've made another questionable decision it appears.

Yesterday they announced their new Law School dean:

"The chancellor and dean of the Hastings College of the Law at the University of California has been named as the new Joseph A. Matson Dean of the University of Notre Dame Law School. Nell Newton will assume her new responsibilities on July 1. She succeeds Patricia O'Hara, who is stepping down after 10 years as dean."

And who does the new dean of Notre Dame Law support when it comes to political candidates?

[source: Huffington Post.]

That's right, she donated the maximum amount she could give to Barack Obama for his presidential run. Jackie Speier is a pro-abortion Catholic politician. John Kerry was a pro-abortion Catholic nominee for President.

And this is the kind of person Notre Dame chose to lead its Catholic Law School?

An informed reader contributes:

"As a bit of background, the law school at Notre Dame has made great strides in recent years, recruiting a respectable number of folks that are drawn to Catholic orthodoxy ... The law school has been trying to fill the deanship for some time. There were hopes for an outstanding transitional figure, who could foster both academic rigor and Catholic orthodoxy at Notre Dame. Yesterday, ND announced its new law school dean, Nell Jessup Newton. She may be a gifted administrator, but there are far superior scholars on the current ND faculty ... So much for hope and change."

So much for Catholic identity and witness, too.

I think that the Pope needs to come out against these so called “Catholic” schools and pull their affiliation with the Catholic Church, period! They are a bastion of liberals that don’t believe in the doctrine the church preaches, including making up their own rules as they go.

She was probably offered a job in the Obama administration till they found she’d paid her taxes.

"WHO THE HELL is inCHARGE of HIRING these APOSTATES??"

Just offhand, I'd say probably the democrats who are in charge of hiring apostates.

My guess.

Certainly not all Catholics are Republican, and more than a few of them are democrat.

But if they were “real” Catholics and not the “i go to church 3 times a year” Catholics, they would know what the church doctrine is and what is taught in the catechism. Most of these so called Catholics are in name only. Don’t be fooled.

I believe the Pope has already spoken to these colleges and universities.

http://www.tldm.org/News8/PopeBenedictCatholicUniversities.htm

Pope Benedict insists Catholic universities remain faithful to Church teaching...

"There is much needed in change We see, My children, in the schools both your public schools and your private schools—even those who call themselves Catholic. They are Catholic, My children, in name only, for they have sold themselves for pieces of silver." - Our Lady of the Roses, December 31, 1974

They shouldn’t be hiring a woman for this position, either.

"..they would know what the church doctrine is and what is taught in the catechism."

I have some very sad news for you:

Not all catholics are conservitive.

Sadly, my own son and DIL are quite happy to vote for democrats. I used to argue with them all the time, but have essentially given up. They are quite faithful, going to church every week, sending their children to parochial school, my son is a lector and lay presenter, for bona-fides.

"Don’t be fooled."

I'm not fooled, but some Catholics are.

I think it may be more effective for the Vatican to announce it will give a “seal approval” to those Catholics who affirmatively request it and submit to some kind of review. That way, the Pope can acknowledge real Catholic schools without paying any attention to Notre Dame.

Personally I think giving Obama an honorary law degree is much worse than having him speak at commencement.

I literally MADE my dtr vote against Obama with all sorts of threats. She says she did but then who knows. I have noticed her changing her tune a little lately but I remain quiet and just plant a few more seeds which I’ll continue to do. When the elections for 2010 arrive I’ll start my threatening campaign again. :)
