Do Condom Corporations Kill You for Your Money

"When used consistently and correctly"...

Abstinence = 0% Chance of Infection / 100% safe Condoms = 20% Chance of Infection / 80% safe

"In one study, condoms failed to prevent HIV transmission 17% of the time (ref. 51). A review of several studies found that HIV infection rates for couples using condoms ranged from 13-27%" http://www.thefreelibrary.com/The+barrier+performance+of+latex+rubber-a014089514

"...experts estimate that consistent condom use reduces the risk of HIV transmission by about 80 to 90 percent. We are unable to quantify this protective effect more precisely..." http://content.nejm.org/cgi/content/full/354/25/2642

"...no barrier method is 100 percent effective,..." "... consistent use of latex condoms reduces the likelihood of HIV infection by 80 to 90 percent..." http://www.usaid.gov/our_work/global_health/aids/TechAreas/prevention/condomfactsheet.html "...consistent use of condoms results in at least an 80 percent reduction in HIV incidence" http://www.c-uphd.org/condom_effectiveness.html

No quantification at this reference, but this is the US CDC after all - what would they want with quantified empirical data? http://www.cdc.gov/hiv/resources/qa/condom.htm

No numbers: http://www.cdc.gov/condomeffectiveness/latex.htm

"The surest way to avoid transmission of sexually transmitted diseases is to abstain from sexual intercourse, or to be in a long-term mutually monogamous relationship with a partner who has been tested and you know is uninfected." http://www.cdc.gov/nchstp/od/condoms.pdf

A straightforward, balanced news report: http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/comment/faith/article5923927.ece

The truth about the lies about condom usage.... http://patrickmadrid.blogspot.com/2009/03/quick-catholic-case-against-condoms.html

And since the media distorts, misreports or misrepresents pretty much everything the Pope says, here is what the Pope actually did say about AIDS and condoms on his trip to Cameroon in March 2009. http://www.catholicnewsagency.com/new.php?n=15403

Of course it's backed up by empirical evidence and expert testimony, but to the profit serving media , truth must be concealed, or mis-characterized and ridiculed as irrelevant. How dare reality disprove their faith in their sacred rubber cow. http://article.nationalreview.com/?q=YzJlNzBiNWRlM2IyYzFjZThjNmUwOTcyN2JlZWI0NTY=

THE POPE AND THE EXPERTS AGREE!

“The pope is correct, or put it a better way, the best evidence we have supports the pope’s comments. He stresses that “condoms have been proven to NOT be effective ..." - Edward C. Green, director of the AIDS Prevention Research Project at the Harvard Center for Population and Development Studies http://article.nationalreview.com/?q=MTNlNDc1MmMwNDM0OTEzMjQ4NDc0ZGUyOWYxNmEzN2E

"Despite substantial condom use and promotion of biomedical approaches, other African countries have shown neither similar behavioral responses nor HIV prevalence declines of the same scale." http://www.sciencemag.org/cgi/content/abstract/304/5671/714

That evidence shows that effective population control of non-HIV sexually transmitted infections requires more than condom focused approaches. http://www.bmj.com/cgi/content/full/336/7637/185

"...moral approaches to AIDS prevention work better than merely physical ones..." http://pajamasmedia.com/andrewklavan/2009/03/18/score-one-for-the-pope/

"Not having sex is the only failsafe way to avoid an STD." http://www.thebody.com/content/art43094.html?m217o

"Not having sex and not shooting drugs are the only ways to be 100% certain you won't get infected with HIV." http://www.nyc.gov/html/doh/html/pr/mr249-05.shtml

THE WEST'S COMMITMENT TO SEXUAL PROMISCUITY IS A RELIGION THAT PEOPLE WILL BOTH KILL AND DIE FOR:

- AIDS victims in 1987: Philippines 135 / Thailand 112 - In 1991 the WHO predicted the Philippines would have 80,000 to 90,000 cases and Thailand 60,000 to 80,000 AIDS victims.

- Thailand promoted the use of condoms in massive campaigns - Catholic Philippines promoted 'Abstinence' and 'Be faithful'.

- The prognosis of the WHO was wrong for both countries:

Manufacturers make STRATEGIC MARKETING PLANS for their products.

This document contains all of the elements of a Strategic Marketing Plan: http://unfpa.org/upload/lib_pub_file/423_filename_condom_prog2.pdf

The UNFPA is behaving remarkably like a shell company set up to implement the condom manufacturers Market Development initiatives. They soften the markets and introduce their sponsors products at the grass roots level by doing missionary sales work for them.

Missionary Sales: These are manufacturer's representatives who call upon retailers or decision makers to attempt to influence them to use the manufacturer's products. Missionary salespeople "preach the gospel" of their company's products, but do not close sales. The most common example is the drug pharmaceutical representative who calls upon physicians to persuade them to prescribe the company's brand of drugs. ... This is often an excellent introduction to sales work, because it does not require that the representative actually close sales."

I saw pregnant girls/ladies frequently at the CPC who would protest: “But we used birth control!”

Birth control reduces your odds of pregnancy, it does not eliminate them. Even tubal ligation has a failure rate!

And of course if you do it because you have birth control, whereas you wouldn’t do it if you didn’t have birth control, your odds of getting pregnant actually increase, yep.

“But we used birth control!”

They just need to remember to take it. I don’t know what the stats are for heart attacks, pulmonary emboli etc for those taking the pill but it’s another detrimental issue.

The stats offered by the birth control companies are for PERFECT compliance. Even so, the failure rate for condoms is 20%.

That means, the average sexually active fertile couple, using condoms correctly every time, have a 20% chance of conceiving a child over the course of one year.

Slip some non-compliance issues in there and you’ll find yourself expecting a new little feller surprisingly frequently.

I am not against birth control. I just think the popular message is: Be responsible! Use birth control and you won’t get pregnant! And that’s a lie. People get pregnant every day using birth control. Even using the most effective method: tubal ligation.

No, with perfect use, the pregnancy rate for condoms is 2-3% a year. Typical use, 15-20%.

No, condoms aren’t 100% effective - but how many STDs and unwanted pregnancies would there be if no one used a condom? It’s great to say “Practice abstinence”, but how many people will?

From your link...

About the Guttmacher Institute

“This year, the Guttmacher Institute celebrates its 40th Anniversary. Four decades after its creation, the Institute continues to advance sexual and reproductive health in the United States and worldwide through an interrelated program of social science research, policy analysis and public education designed to generate new ideas, encourage enlightened public debate, promote sound policy and program development and, ultimately, inform individual decision making.”

Their Mission is to make money:

Probably why they’ve done a ‘study’ on how Parental Consent doesn’t reduce abortions.

Guttmacher (your link) is a business just like Planned Parenthood. Their numbers are meaningless. Contraceptives, abortions etc., have a huge profit which provides no incentive to reduce their product rather it behooves them to expand.

I don’t know how many STDs and unwanted pregnancies there would be....

The Philippine and Thailand study above showed a huge difference. We just haven’t tried “abstinence” at all. It couldn’t be any worse.

I guess my memory is rusty, I confused perfect with typical.

Either way, there is no such thing as 100% birth control. As I told my clients, if you don’t want to get pregnant, don’t have sex.

Guttmacher was the first site I found - the figures are consistent with other results I’ve found in the past, like WHO. You can say they’re all in the contraceptive- and abortion- pushing business if you like. BTW, Guttmacher shows very low pregnancy rates for NFP - with perfect use.

The biggest problem with the efficacy of most forms of contraception is that consistent, perfect use over the years is not common. People decide to run the risk and get caught.

And that is why sex belongs in a marriage ready to welcome children and able to cope with surprises.

And yes, there are contraception researchers and even people in the abortion business who get sick of seeing the feckless come in for their third, fourth, fifth abortion - hence the quest for the “foolproof” methods - the IUD, sterilization, Norplant.

I agree that the pro-choicers probably don’t want abortion to be rare, because then it becomes an aberration, and far more likely to be prohibited by law. There are some who are in it for money, and some for ideology.

Interesting.

Good points in your response. The IUD and sterilization aren’t new and the long-term side/effects of Norplant as yet to be known. It’s all risky yet appears to be done in a very caviler manner. Anyway, I’m not an expert, just found the link and thought it a good resource. The Pope has been getting hammered by the press etc., and only one side is getting out, but what else is new.

“And that is why sex belongs in a marriage ready to welcome children and able to cope with surprises.”

Yes, that would be the optimal.

In “freedom of choice,” the baby has no choice, thus, the procedure is simply a “might makes right” move against an innocent being. “This baby is inconvenient and I have the power to terminate it, so I will.”

Once power is the premise, removing the infirm, the old, or the inconvenient is less difficult. The premise of might over right is established, and the culture grows comfortable with it. That’s the growing problem.

Hitler started his Eugenics Program, (before the Holocaust) following one case involving a young German man named Nower.

From the beginning, the great obstacle to the eugenics movement has been the Roman Catholic Church, and the Church’s position has been repeatedly distorted.

Just a few and a sketch of the Church’s position can be found in:

Gaudium et Spes or The Church in the Modern World — the Vatican II document explaining to all people of good will why the Church wants to be involved in discussions of the problems facing the world and what she thinks she offers;

Humanae Vitae — Pope Paul VI’s letter on human life, best known for his re-statement of the Church’s unwavering assertion that contraception is objectively and cannot be made moral, but also contains a sharp warning about the threat of coercive population control,

Populorum Progressio — Pope Paul VI’s powerful letter on development, urging the wealthy nations to help the poor generously, and calling development the “new name for peace”,

Laborem Exercens—Pope John Paul II’s letter on work, offering a radically new approach to the place of work in the life of an individual and a society; and

Familiaris Consortio—Pope John Paul II’s letter on family life, best known for re-stating opposition to contraception, but defends the rights of families, including the right to migrate in search of a better economic life;

Sollicitudo Rei Socialis—one of Pope John Paul II’s letters on the crises facing the modern world, stating that the measure of a social program is its impact on the dignity of the individual, and stating that the route to freedom from social evil is solidarity with the Victims of the evil.”

The Catholic Church goes so goes Moral Authority which is why she’s been attacked with such force. She’s withstood it before and will do so again.

Calgary Catholic Teachers Association Pulls Support For Condom-Promoting Stephen Lewis Foundation

By Thaddeus M. Baklinski

CALGARY, Alberta, April 7, 2009 (LifeSiteNews.com) - The Calgary Catholic Teachers’ Association has decided to follow the guidance of its bishop and stop directing its Lenten fund-raising efforts to the Stephen Lewis Foundation, one of the world’s most prominent promoters of abortion in third world countries and the condom doctrines of the international AIDS organizations.

For the past several years Calgary Catholic teachers have been raising money during Lent to support the Lewis Foundation’s AIDS work in sub-Saharan Africa.

The Stephen Lewis Foundation has been especially targeting Uganda, which had been very successful in combating AIDS with its indigenous “ABC” AIDS/HIV programs. The ABC program teaches Ugandans that chastity and monogamous marriage are the best ways to curb the AIDS crisis; however, the unprecedented success of the Ugandan program is now being threatened by Western organizations that insist on inundating the country with condoms.

After concerns were raised about fundraising for Lewis’ group, Bishop Fred Henry of Calgary sent a letter to the teachers’ association suggesting that they direct their funds to organizations in Africa that follow the guidelines of the Catholic Church.

In a letter to the editor of the Calgary Herald, Bishop Henry said the Christian virtues of chastity, abstinence and fidelity are “the most effective means of primary HIV prevention,” and should not be pushed aside as valid prevention options in favor of passing out condoms.

“If you have two businesses or organizations, one that doesn’t support your values and mission statement and another that does, which one are you going to support? I think that the answer is obvious,” Bishop Henry told the newspaper.

Calgary Catholic Teachers’ Association president David Cracknell said the though the bishop’s recommendation has caused some conflict in the teachers’ union, “It’s very difficult for teachers to even consider defying the bishop because he provides the moral guidance for us, along with, of course ultimately, the Pope.”

I’d forgotten about this program - it’s apparently doing very well. Ironic that it was being sabotaged by the Catholic Teachers Assoc.

No, everyone in the country hasn't practiced abstinence, to believe it will ever happen is a pipe dream. It could be worse - condoms do prevent some pregnancies and STDs. Ban the condom and watch the numbers explode.
When I was a kid condoms were difficult to get. Drugstores in my area wouldn't sell them to teenagers, if we wanted them we had to sneak into the restroom of a gas station and use the vending machine - and hope we weren't caught. Adults believed in abstinence only. We still had a number of girls drop out of school to "spend a year with their aunt" and the local Home for Unwed Mothers had a waiting list.

Ah, from the mouth of the experienced - so that’s why you said...

One can’t quibble with that conclusion. :)
