Ivy Leaguer `infiltrates' Falwell's university

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Kevin Roose managed to blend in during his single semester at Liberty University, attending lectures on the myth of evolution and the sin of homosexuality, and joining fellow students on a mission trip to evangelize partyers on spring break.

Roose had transferred to the Virginia campus from Brown University in Providence, a famously liberal member of the Ivy League. His Liberty classmates knew about the switch, but he kept something more important hidden: He planned to write a book about his experience at the school founded by fundamentalist preacher Jerry Falwell.

Each conversation about salvation or hand-wringing debate about premarital sex was unwitting fodder for Roose's recently published book: "The Unlikely Disciple: A Sinner's Semester at America's Holiest University."

America's Holiest University

I bet a lot of Baptist, Catholic and other religious based universities will take issue with that one.

Wow a whole semester, he must be writing Mylie Cyrus’ memoirs too.

All of us disciples are unlikely and sinners.

He didn’t have to sneak in to learn about the university.

They are proud of their teaching and their traditions.

Wow, what a great idea! Imagine the hijinx that a book on “Queer Studies” at Brown would produce. Why, it could be given the full National Geographic treatment, lol.

Once ambivalent about faith, Roose now prays to God regularly — for his own well-being and on behalf of others.

God doesn't recognize mockers Roose...at least not in a way they'd enjoy.

I sure hope he exposes all of those holier than thou, two-faced, hypocrites....Wait a second....They were all being sincere....He was the one hiding his agenda....Nevermind.

“How money rules their minds.”

A more interesting book would be about sneaking in to a Harvard or Yale and writing about their biases. Like how much money they get from the Saudis and how that made the schools change their hard won equal rights rules for women.

Or how the self proclaimed experts, having graduated from these schools, then proceeded to ruin American with their ‘superior’ educations.

Do you notice how many times the “gay” issue was raised in this article? The media are obsessed with homosexuality. It’s hard to believe there was a time when you could read every article in, say, The New York Times without coming across even one reference to homosexuality. Will the world ever again be normal???

Exactly. If the current leadership caste of the United States is any indication of the quality of education you get in the Ivy League, I am thoroughly unimpressed.

You do not know what God recognizes and what he doesn’t. This boy’s relationship is between he and God, who can judge his heart and not just his actions. It is a dangerous thing to think you know how God thinks.

Brown grad Bobby Jindal may be an exception (emphasis on 'may').

Oooohh, he "infiltrated" Liberty U! It must take an especially intelligent mind to a) enroll, b) pay the tuition and finally c) attend classes. He deserves a medal for bravery alone!

I thought it was a good story. I’d be interested in reading the book. It would have been easy and popular for him to write a tome ripping into everything about the University. It sounds like he didn’t. That MAY actually effect his sales. The left doesn’t exactly salivate over the prospect of even-handed coverage of Christians.

I went to a debate event at Liberty. The students were wonderful and welcoming. Falwell hosted a dinner and invited all the debaters (a very generous move). He took questions from the crowd. Now, this tournament had ALL SORTS of colleges and you can imagine pious anti-religion debaters and their questions. But he took all of them and gave honest answers. It might have made them mad, but I think everyone actually wound up respecting him for his forthrightness.

Well, not a lot of Catholic universities. Maybe a few. (Says a sad Catholic.)

I think he saw them as peaceful and pleasant because he didn’t know what hot buttons to push. He assumed that what they get upset about is what liberals think they would get upset about. In fact, students at Liberty could probably get seriously riled up if you knew how.

Here are some guesses about what could get Liberty students bent out of shape (in no particular order):

1) “Do you think illegal aliens should be given amnesty?”
2) “They really shouldn’t let students have guns on campus.”
3) “Barbie dolls just teach girls how to be prostitutes.”
4) “Congress just voted to outlaw the battle flag of the Confederacy.”
5) “Obama just decided to disband the Marine Corps.”

Of course, there is no guarantee that you could get out of there with your skin intact if you tried saying such things.
