Majority Say Notre Dame Made Mistake Honoring Obama (Rebuts MSM lies)
Rasmussen Reports ^ | 5-5-9 | Rasmussen Reports

... By a 60% to 25% margin, U.S. Catholics say the university should not award an honorary degree to the president. Sixty-six percent (66%) of Evangelical Christians share that view along with 52% of other Protestants...

...In 2004, the bishops issued a statement saying, "The Catholic community and Catholic institutions should not honor those who act in defiance of our fundamental moral principles. They should not be given awards, honors or platforms which would suggest support for their actions."

Initial polls, still being cited as if they were conducted yesterday, indicated a large plurality of Catholics were unaware of the issue. Well, they are aware, now! ... and angry.

Another ridiculous talking point is that only 1/5 of the bishops had spoken out. Well, that number is on the upswing, but the important thing to note is that speaking out isn't like voting in a poll. Most US bishops are suffragan or auxiliary bishops. All but two of 100 auxiliary bishops in the US haven't spoken up, because its their superiors' place to do so, not because they agree with Notre Dame's decisions.

(A suffragan is a bishop of a diocese within another bishop's archdiocese. An auxiliary bishop is a bishop who has the bishop's authority to ordain, confirm and consecrate, but who doesn't have ultimate authority in the diocese he lives in.)

Obama is getting a kick out of this.

He hasn’t picked a Church yet in Washington, which is only second to Las Vegas as having the most Churches in a town.
Guess he cant find another pastor as racist as Wright.

That's because he's waiting 'til ramadan to pick a mosque.

The stupid MSM poll asked a different question, too. They asked if it was right or wrong to invite Obama, not the same thing as honor him.

Damn liars.

I’m not sure where you pulled from what I wrote that 2 Archbishops haven’t spoken out. But I do know of two big ones, and they are exactly who you’d expect: Abp. O’Malley of Boston, and Cdl. Malony of Los Angeles.

You’re certainly correct that the ambiguous wording helps elicit a more pro-Obama response, but there’s more to the difference than just that. Rasmussen is very definitely finding a more aware, concerned constituency.

Well, not so silent. Oops.

Hey, did you see the link to “My Immortal” by Evanescence to the Passion of the Christ? I sure don’t think that song was written for that context, but that’s the only one I’ve imagined that makes any sense. (It still has problems, though.)

All but two of the auxiliary bishops have NOT spoken up. My point is that it’s not their place to. I mean, I’d welcome their statements if they did, but if their superior DOES speak up, they don’t have to, and if their superiot does NOT speak up, they don’t really have the authority to.
