I just purchased the ESV and am going to read it from Genesis through Revelation. I just finished reading the NIV in that manner. It took 7 years, but I did it.

The ESV is a great translation; you’ll really appreciate it!

That’s great to read. I think every one should read the entire Bible. I finally read the King James Version from Genesis to Revelation last year and used a schedule from this site to do it-

The reason our culture and nation is in such decline is largely due to the ignorance of Scripture by both Christians and non-Christians alike.

Hosea 4:6

6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge;
because you have rejected knowledge,
I reject you from being a priest to me.
And since you have forgotten the law of your God,
I also will forget your children.

ESV is the version our pastors read from now.
But I’m still in NASB, but read the ESV every once in a while.
It’s a little different, but not a lot. The wording is just changed around a bit.

I would have to agree with you here. But it's also to be expected.

Doesn’t the ESV take the same tack that other “new” translations take? Changing male references to “gender neutral” references? While it’s nice to have more “modern English”, I don’t want a politically correct Bible.

From what I’ve read of this translation, the ESV may have a few “gender-neutral” refences but it’s nothing like the politically correct New Revised Standard Version or Today’s New International Version. In fact, I’ve read feminist criticism of the English Standard Version as being “sexist.”

Conservatives worked on the ESV translation and it’s generally considered a conservative, orthodox, literal translation like the New American Standard Bible or the New King James Version.
