The Zambian government has ordered the immediate arrest of American evangelists circulating pamphlets here indicating that the world will come to an end on 21 May 2011.
Chief government spokesperson Ronnie Shikapwasha accused the visiting Americans of spreading false news designed to cause panic in the country.
“The group is contradicting the bible that teaches that no one knows when the world will come to an end,” Shikapwasha, who is also the Information Minister, told reporters in Lusaka.
The Minister said Zambia as a Christian nation had no room for such “falsehood” and the people responsible should be arrested and deported to their native country, stressing that government has a duty to protect its nationals from receiving falsehood such as the one being spread by the visiting Americans.
Zambia Episcope Conference spokesperson Father Paul Samasumo has advised the Christian community to be wary of false prophets, while Bishop Paul Mususu who supported government’s directive to arrest the group said government should not allow foreigners to mislead Zambians.
The privately- run MUVI TV crew on Monday caught up with the leader of the American group, John McCarthy, who claimed that the bible gave them the accurate information on their claims.
I thought 2012 was the accepted date of the end? I’ll have to check the Conspiracy Gazette, or Art Bell, or the DNC website.
Considering the fact that Africans tend to go overboard I’m gonna have to side with the Zambian government on this one if they’re telling the truth.

Are these people Jehovah’s Witnesses? JW were notorious about setting dates for the return of Jesus but they have been quiet recently about doing that.

Why would Christians be using the Mayan calendar?
Why don’t the Zambians just deport these people? Why jail them and take up space having to feed them as well? Same for us in America. Why do we house illegals who commit crimes? Just deport them and then close the border.

We have been taught to only read verse 36, ‘But of that day and hour knoweth no man’, but verse 37 says, ‘But as the days of Noah were, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be.’. God told Noah the exact day to enter into the ark. God also tells us the date, but he speaks through the Bible.

I’m 43, and I don’t think it’s all that bad. Yes, it’s VERY bad in terms of politics and the direction the government is heading, but unlike Barry O, I don’t judge the whole planet or even my daily life entirely by how Washington is doing.
