Posted on 08/19/2009 8:47:09 AM PDT by Pope Pius XII
In a wide-ranging interview with The New York Times, 86-year-old film director Franco Zeffirelli-- perhaps best remembered for his 1977 Jesus of Nazareth-- called Pope Benedict a wonderful man theologically but said that the cardinals made an image error when they elected him. That’s what I value in a spiritual leader. Theatricality. Can’t go wrong. Posture is cool too.

Franco is a talented director, excelling in film, theater and opera. But he’s just an old poofter who thinks everything needs extra theatricality.
Under his reasoning, they should have elected Obama to be the Pope. Well, if he doesn’t not think Benedict is theatrical enough, I wonder what he thought of Pius XII and Paul VI.
You mean like finally electing an “elegant” president?
That’s just one of the gazillion reasons the movie industry doesn’t elect popes.
Hollywood gets to groom the current president of America, but not the pope.

But he excels in reverence, apologetics and theology.
I’ll take those any day over theatrical.
Living our lives as Christ would have us live them is the goal — not entertainment!
Maybe that’s why some at the Vatican are enthralled by Obama. Remember how Obama came onstage ALONE in Denver and sang his acceptance aria!
