SCANDAL AT MISSION CHURCH IN BOSTON ---His Eminence Sean Cardinal O’Malley

SCANDAL AT MISSION CHURCH IN BOSTON

The Catholic Action League of Massachusetts today decried the scandal which occurred this morning at Boston's most historic Catholic shrine --- the Minor Basilica of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, known as Mission Church --- where a Mass of Christian Burial was used to “celebrate the life” of one of America's most notorious opponents of Catholic morality, the late Senator Edward M. Kennedy. Senator Kennedy fought for more than three decades to keep the killing of pre-born children legal and unrestricted in the United States.

Surgical abortion has claimed more than fifty-one million human lives since 1973. The Catholic religion defines abortion as an “abominable crime”.

President Barack Obama delivered the eulogy, in which he alluded to Kennedy's support for gay rights. One of the Prayers of the Faithful was a petition to end divisions “between gays and straights”.

Ecclesial participants included Rev. Raymond Collins, Rector of the Basilica; Rev. Mark Hession, Kennedy’s parish priest from Our Lady of Victories Church in Centerville on Cape Cod; Rev. J. Donald Monan, Chancellor of Boston College; and Sean Cardinal O'Malley, Archbishop of Boston, who thanked President Obama for his words and his presence. Both the homilist, Fr. Hession, and Cardinal O'Malley suggested that the late senator had found eternal salvation.

The Catholic Action League called the event “a tragic example of the Church’s willingness to surrender to the culture, and serve Caesar rather than Christ”.

Catholic Action League Executive Director C. J. Doyle stated: “Senator Kennedy supported legal abortion, partial-birth abortion, the public funding of Medicaid abortions, embryonic stem cell research, birth control, federal family planning programs, and so-called emergency contraception. He defended Roe v. Wade, endorsed the proposed Freedom of Choice Act (FOCA), and opposed both the Human Life Amendment and the Hyde Amendment. Kennedy maintained a 100% rating from both NARAL and Planned Parenthood. In 1993, he received the Kenneth Edelin Award from Planned Parenthood, and in 2000 received the Champions of Choice Award from NARAL Pro-Choice Massachusetts at the hands of the same Dr. Kenneth Edelin, the infamous abortionist.

"During his 1994 reelection campaign, Kennedy said ‘I wear as a badge of honor my opposition to the anti-choicers.’ His successful obstruction of the nomination of Judge Robert Bork to the U.S. Supreme Court in 1987 effectively prevented the overturning of Roe v. Wade. Beyond his specific positions on human life issues, Senator Kennedy, along with the late Congressman Robert Drinan, provided the cover and the example for two generations of Catholic politicians to defect from Church teaching on the sanctity of innocent human life.

“No rational person can reasonably be expected to take seriously Catholic opposition to abortion when a champion of the Culture of Death, who repeatedly betrayed the Faith of his baptism, is lauded and extolled by priests and prelates in a Marian basilica. This morning's spectacle is evidence of the corruption which pervades the Catholic Church in the United States. The right to life will never be recognized by secular society if it is not first vindicated and consistently upheld within the institutions of the Church itself.”

______________________________________________________ His Eminence Sean Cardinal O’Malley Archdiocese of Boston 2121 Commonwealth Ave. Boston, MA 02135 Your Eminence: We are aware of the impending disaster that is about to take place at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Basilica in your Archdiocese. We are positive that you are aware that Senator Edward Kennedy spent the past 30 years doing all he could to advocate and support the act of procured abortion, and yet he continued to call himself Catholic. We know that you are also aware of his divorce, remarriage, et cetera. These are public matters, not private.

We are therefore astounded that you are permitting a funeral Mass for this man at the Basilica, and that you have obviously approved the appearance of President Barack Obama, the United States president who has done more to facilitate the direct killing of innocent children before birth than any president in the history of this nation.

There is still time to stop this scandal, Your Eminence. The truth does not change because of the respect the world is paying to this man. The Catholic principles which you have sworn to uphold have not disappeared because of Senator Kennedy’s death.

As I have told several reporters, if this funeral Mass proceeds as planned, Senator Edward Kennedy will have spit one more time on Christ, this time from a casket. Please, Your Eminence. Stop the travesty.

Sincerely yours in the Lord Who IS Life, Judie Brown, President American Life League, Inc.

"The words of the Bible and of the Church fathers rang in my ears, those sharp condemnations of shepherds who are like mute dogs; in order to avoid conflicts, that let the poison spread. Peace is not the first civic duty, and a bishop whose only concern is not to have any problems and to gloss over as many conflicts as possible is an image I find repulsive."

Today’s gospel reading says it all and nails Teddy Kennedy for the phony hypocrite he was, as well, all of the pharasaical Catholic liberal Bishops who in their silence condoned and joined Kennedy. And of course the clan and the entire democratic party.
Mk 7:1-8, 14-15, 21-23
He responded,
“Well did Isaiah prophesy about you hypocrites, as it is written:
This people honors me with their lips,
but their hearts are far from me;
in vain do they worship me,
teaching as doctrines human precepts.
You disregard God’s commandment but cling to human tradition.”
Teaching as doctrines human precepts. Yes, doctrines such as Michael espouses and an orthodox priest, God bless him, tries to disabuse Michael of.
And what He said, well I thought about Teddy when I heard it again today.
““From within people, from their hearts,
come evil thoughts, unchastity, theft, murder,
adultery, greed, malice, deceit,
licentiousness, envy, blasphemy, arrogance, folly.
All these evils come from within and they defile.”

What a fitting reading on this Kennedy weekend.
V’s wife.

Despite all of Teddy’s flaws and often un-Christian like behaviors why should we begrudge that family if they wanted a Catholic funeral. Let God sort it all out and let the dead man go. We need to fight now against the left pushing foward socialistic national healthcare in his name.

A personal odyssey. My wife and I were both raised Catholics and both went to Catholic schools. Now in my 60s I still attended Mass faithfully and received Communion weekly.

For years I was bothered by the fact the Church would take no action against pro-abort politicians like Kennedy, but I deferred to the Church's judgement. There was also the pedophilia scandal which almost bankrupted the Spokane diocese north of me (I am in the Yakima diocese), but again I deferred to the episcopate. Surely these people know what they are doing and have the best interests of the faithful at heart, don't they?

Then came Obama at Notre Dame. Watching aged nuns and priests be arrested while that man was an honored guest at a "Catholic" institution named after our Holy Mother was finally more than I could bear. That order at ND is under the direct supervision of the Pope and he, and the order's prefect did nothing (in fact the prefect defended the invite). Judas Jenning, Order of Pontius Pilate, is still running ND and the Church, while constantly giving lip service to its Pro-Life position, did nothing, does nothing.

That the Church honors this pagan who poses as a Catholic doesn't surprise me in the least. It sickens me but it does not surprise me. After all just how much money have the Kennedys given the Church over the years in order to buy its silence and cooperation, such as buying their jokes of annulments?

Needless to say I am no longer a practicing Catholic, for as Ronald Reagan said of the Democrats, I didn't leave it, it left me.

And just so you won't think I am only critical of the Catholic Church for its inconsistencies, I point the same accusing finger at our Mormon friends. One of your apostles once called abortion "the greatest evil of our time" (perhaps paraphrased, but reasonably close). That was one of your apostiles, guys, a rather exalted person in your Church, no? So then explain to me why Harry Reid is still a member in good standing?

Will our side ever take a firm stand on anything?

“Where the carcass is, the vultures will come.” - Jesus of Nazareth

The Mission Church has held regular prayer services for the sick for years and there have untold number of healings. The crutches that hang on the walls are a testimony of God’s power.

And then they allow this travesty to be held there?

Believe me, after Obama won, I felt the same way. Why had Catholics (in name only) and so many other Christians been fooled by this man? I just couldn’t figure it out.

But the truth is those who did vote for Obama and follow ideas such as Kennedy’s, are not devout Christians. They pay lip service, but do not truly believe. They have lost their fear of the true God and replaced him with a pagan god.

I chose my name to continue to remind myself of JPII’s words “Be not afraid.” Those are the hardest words to stand by sometimes, especially since the election. We must remember God is in charge (I just wish he would send me the next chapter so I know how all this will end).

Whether our Bishops and Priests live by and teach the truth is something for us to pray about. They will have much to answer to when they meet God face to face. The truth is the truth no matter what. Just because a Bishop or Priest doesn’t preach it from the pulpit doesn’t mean we Christians who know the truth don’t have to continue to live by it. Especially Catholics and the Eucharist.

Pray for God to give you strength to defend the truth and to return home. I will pray for you and other who feel the same way, I know how you feel, I almost turned my back on the Church too.

I have found great inspiration in reading EWTN’s Faith Q&As. They answer lots of questions regarding the faith and what is going on in the political world today. I have gotten into a habit of reading the questions answered in the last 24 hours daily. This has been a great help for me to stay focused on the truth and to know I am not alone in my thoughts.

“Be not afraid.”

I too was going to leave the church but before doing so a friend suggested the Priestly Faternity of Saint Peter which is under the Pope. I drive 45 mins to Mass each way, but it is worth it. Good Priests, good homilies, confession before and after Mass, they stricly follow the doctrine of the Church. God has blessed me abundantly because of it and my family. The first Mass I attended there my daughter went completely white and afterwards said, Mom what was that? I never seen anything so holy before in my life. The graces and protection are in abundant. http://fssp.com/press/locations/

There's a lot of truth in the original post here. Hoever -- we do not know what Cardinal O'Malley knew -- (Or else he would NOT have been at the funeral, in my opinion.)

I disagreed with most of Kennedy's politics -- he was right on the "No Child Left Behind."

But -- We have no idea if Senator Kennedy had a deathbed re-conversion. We cannot judge.

I disagree.

His funeral was scandal for 3 reasons.

1. That grave matters such as abortion, sodomy and the destruction of the traditional family are not such grave issues if Catholics like Kennedy can publicly champion them w/o being censured by the Church.
2. That Catholics are allowed to live their lives, with impunity, in enmity with God and at war with His Church until their final days.
3. That all that is necessary for the salvation of such sinners is the act of Confession (as opposed to a sincere Confession made possible by a miraculous, special grace from God).

Do not give up hope... I think ND marked a turning point. Even though Obama still spoke, there were dozens of bishops who openly spoke out against him. Most notable among them was Bishop D'Arcy of South Bend - so the whole debaucle was not "approved" by the Church by any stretch of the imagination.

ND is not the Church. If Jennings et. al. don't change their ways, it will cease to be Catholic (or might simply cease to be). The Church, despite the shortcomings of its individual members, will not fail. Even Judas betrayed Christ, most of the Apostles fled during His Passion, and Peter denied Him.

You will be in my prayers today.

You need to be correct—the president of ND’s name is John I. Jenkins; I suspect the “I” stands for Iscariot.

We must realize that the Church consists of human beings and they fall under St. Paul's admonishing:

“Romans 3:23”

“...for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God”

It was Saint Athanasius the first Doctor of the Church who said:

“”The floor of hell is paved with the skulls of bishops.” He was, of course, referring to those bishops - the vast majority - who had been lured away from the True Church in following the false teachings of Arius. If that many bishops were in hell, how many who followed them down the wide path to perdition also were? They say for every priest who loses his soul, 1000 souls are lost; for every bishop who loses his eternal soul, 10,000 souls are denied the Heavenly portals.”

http://www.dailycatholic.org/issue/09May/may2doc.htm

I know your feelings but I think giving up the Eucharist is too great a loss to one’s soul and salvation. I will pray for your wife and yourself.

The funeral should have been held in private. It shows the laity that baby butchery isn’t really so bad, here’s this Catholic pol baby butcherist being praised by the presence of the bishop plus the priest’s and president’s glowing public speeches. You can’t teach without discipline, despite what a lot of bishops think.
