I have been thinking about this for a long time. I think several people have published book reports and others have given their take on certain books.
We would need to have a variety of books by different denominational authors.
Not everyone would have to read every book. Whoever might be interested in that month's title could post on that month's thread.
We would have to have some kind of rules such as limited discussion until the half-point of the month so that the conclusion of the book wouldn't be given away in the first ten posts.
There could be different hosts for different months.
I would be willing to host a December book and a few Catholic books.
One last thing -- threads would have to be more along the Ecumenical guidelines where there would not be bashing of any one denomination or another.
Just my thoughts.
I'll be glad to compile a list of books and of hosts for different months.
PS. And I already have a suggestions for November and December. (If you want to do this.)
Any takers?
Anyone with any thoughts on this?
I do think it could be of a benefit to all of us.
Vanity Also.
My Sis.
She is real , ....
I ain’t pushing ,click if you have a mind to.
Ooooooh. About the angels thrown out of heaven?
Are you being funny?
So be it.
**In the final chapter, Act Three, the author discusses the issues that Christians raise about the value of movies and introduces principles that can be applied when choosing which movies to watch and which ones to avoid. Many Christians, in defending their stance for or against movies, will use various verses from the Bible. **
Sounds like a good one!
I would be interested.
For me it would be a re-read — but another possibility for December would be the classic, A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens.
I'd give the pop spirituality books another 50 years before adding them to a book club. I'm not a snob, but I'd hardly put Glenn Beck in the category of Great Thinkers.
Those would be fine too. I thought starting off with something as you call it “Pop spirituality” might be more appealing.
But I like your idea?
Any individual books by those authors? Please recommend them. That would be a great choice for down the line.
How about this one by Scott Hahn? “The Lamb’s Sumpper”?? I thought it was outstanding.
ping
oops......The Lamb’s Supper
I watched a show from yesterday on EWTN The Abundant Life” and the guest was Samuel Gregg and he wrote a book called “On Ordered Liberty” abour socialism and he was extremely interesting and tied the subject and its affects on religion as well. I love also Ralph Martin’s book “The Fulfillment of all Desires” a book that has a lot about doctors of the church and how we can strive to emulate their praying, etc. I am a fan of St Teresa of Avila and her writings made her human failings what we each experience in prayer life.
I’m open to any ideas.
**The Fulfillment of all Desires**
**On Ordered Liberty **
Both sound interesting, but I would pick them in that order. Perhaps you could moderate a thread if we chose one of them???
I would love to have you moderate a thread on YOUR choice of one of those books. How about January?
That is very kind, but I'm just an artist, not an intellectual. I read those authors when I was in college, decades ago, but I don't remember much about them. I mentioned them because I would like to reread them and thought that a book club might give me some impetus to do that. However, I would be willing to moderate one of the book discussions, keep the discussion on topic, zot the abusive posts, that sort of thing.
