ROME (JTA) – Despite renewed tensions over his decision to move a controversial wartime pope closer to sainthood, Pope Benedict XVI is still expected to make a historic visit to the main Rome synagogue.
"For now, the visit is still on," the spokesperson for Rome Chief Rabbi Riccardo Di Segni told JTA on Tuesday.
The visit is scheduled for Jan. 17, marked annually by the Italian Catholic Church as a day of dialogue with Judaism.
Benedict provoked outrage in the Jewish world and cast a cloud over the visit when he signed a decree on Saturday certifying Pope Pius XII's religiously defined "heroic virtues," a move that paved the way for his beatification. Benedict signed the same decree for the late Pope John Paul II, who made fostering Jewish-Catholic relations a keystone of his policy.
Benedict appeared to try to make amends in a speech Monday when he condemned the Nazis in recalling his visit in May to Yad Vashem.
"The visit to the Yad Vashem has meant an upsetting encounter with the cruelty of human fault, with the hatred of a blind ideology that with no justification sent millions of people to their deaths," he said.
Critics have long accused Pius of having ignored Jewish suffering during the Shoah. The Vatican and other supporters of Pius say the wartime pope worked behind the scenes to save Jews.
In criticizing Benedict's move, Jewish bodies renewed calls for the Vatican to open its secret World War II archives in order to clarify the issue.
"As long as the archives of Pope Pius about the crucial period 1939 to 1945 remain closed, and until a consensus on his action -- or inaction -- concerning the persecution of millions of Jews in the Holocaust is established, a beatification is inopportune and premature," World Jewish Congress President Ronald Lauder said in a statement.
Italian Jewish leaders, including De Segni, issued a similar critique but also paid tribute to Catholic "individuals and Church institutions" that worked to save Jews from persecution.
And their deluded sycophants continue the mendacity.
Pope tries to make amends with Jews
Well, I'm not as interested in seeing how it works out with the Pope trying to make amends with the Jews -- as much as I'm wanting to see whether the "biggest, baddest Jew on this earth" wants to make amends with the Pope... LOL...
I think the Pope may fail to understand that there's a one-world government going to be set up, and it's not his or anyone else's to set up... :-)
Many fail to understand -- but they will "understand" when the Messiah of Israel returns to this earth, sets His feet on the soil of this globe, and sets up the ruling authority -- the one-world government -- that He puts into place over all nations, including the United States.
He's the Messiah of Israel, that He is coming back to earth, to set up a one-world government, with His headquarters in Jerusalem, ruling over all the nations of the world, including the United States and will rule over all who are still alive (from who are living right now today) -- and that He will definitely scrap the Constitution of the United States and make Himself the supreme ruler over all that we do.
The "day of reckoning" is coming for all of those who are trying to take over the world and put it totally under their control in an evil one-world empire. And they do admit that they want a one-world government -- their government, not God's...
When the Messiah of Israel comes back to this earth to set up His one-world government and subject all the nations of the world to His authority and rule -- He'll be making real short work of any of those yahoos... LOL...
And you can be sure that He will be utterly destroying anything to do with any of these yahoos, since whatever they say and do is a total perversion of anything to do with the Messiah of Israel.
And for sure -- we all, in this world, need the Messiah of Israel back, here on earth -- to destroy this coming one-world government and to install His own one-world government in its place.
I'm looking forward to the coming Kingdom on earth and the one-world government that the Messiah of Israel will be setting up, after He destroys, by His own hand, the present and evil one-world government that we see forming right now.

The 860,000 Jews rescued from the Holocaust by Ven. Pius XII survived whether Dr. Eckleburg likes it or not.

Dude, Israeli even made him a “Righteous Gentile.” Even Golda Meir praised him for his work to save Jews during the Holocaust. This is just arguing for the sake of arguing.
